How To Make Egg-In-A-Frame

There's nothing quite as delightful as finding new ways to do things that have been done a million times before. This recipe is really just the standard toast and eggs breakfast, with a little twist.

Tools and Ingredients:

  • Bread
  • Butter
  • Egg
  • Bread knife
  • Frying pan
  • Spatula

Instructions:

  1. Take a slice of bread, and butter both sides of it generously.
  2. Cut out a hole in the center of the bread with a bread knife.
  3. Melt a spoonful of butter on the frying pan and let it sizzle.
  4. Put both pieces of the bread (the frame and the cut-out piece) on the pan.
  5. Crack an egg in the center of the frame.
  6. Wait for the whites to turn opaque, and for the yellow yolk to harden.
  7. Flip the bread, as well as the cut-out.
  8. Fry until the egg is completely cooked.
  9. Top the egg-in-a-frame with ketchup, hotdogs, bacon, cheese, or hotcake syrup.
  10. Serve with fruit in season for a balanced meal.

Tips:

  • To make sure that the hole is a perfect circle, use an upside-down glass or a pastry cutter to cut out the center.
  • Removing the crusts of the bread is optional, though it would make for a better frame.
  • Put a drop of cooking oil or another helping of butter in the center before breaking the egg into it, to avoid it sticking to the pan.
  • Metal spatulas make flipping the bread easier.
