Strawberry and Chocolate Meringue

Strawberries? Check. Sugary base? Check. Sweet melted chocolate? Double check. This dessert is so easy and delicious that it's hard not to grin after a bit. This is one of the first dessert recipes that I have ever learned and is in my top five. Everyone will love this and should give it a try.

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 1 semi sweet chocolate square
  • Fresh strawberries sliced
  • Fresh black berries
  • 1 can of whipped topping

Procedure:

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Separate the egg whites and beat them until they form soft peaks.
  3. Add the sugar and the vanilla slowly to the egg whites and continue beating for one minute.
  4. Take a baking sheet and cover it with parchment paper.
  5. Using a large serving spoon, dip egg whites onto the parchment paper. Then take a smaller spoon to create an indent in the center. (That'll be the bed for the fruit.)
  6. Bake for 50 minutes or until the egg whites are dry and lightly browned.
  7. Let the meringue cool before removing each one and placing them on their own plate.
  8. Melt the chocolate and drizzle it over the meringue.
  9. Next place the sliced strawberries in and around the hole in the meringue.
  10. Squirt a small amount of whipped topping and top with a couple of blackberries.
  11. Serve and enjoy.

Note:

You can use any kind of fresh fruit that you please and the chocolate desired doesn't have to be semi-sweet; it can be dark or milk or even white. The order in which you put the chocolate, fruit and whipped topping is up to you. I like to add the melted chocolate straight onto the meringue and let it harden up before adding the fruit and whipped topping.
