Caramel Apples

Fall is quickly approaching, which means apple cider, apple pie, and caramel apples! Although caramel apples look difficult to make, this caramel apple recipe makes the tasty treat an easy desert to enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of light corn syrup
  • 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 9 apples (any kind)
  • Chopped nuts (these can be substituted with mini M&M’s)

Materials:

  • 9 wooden sticks
  • Large saucepan
  • Large cookie sheet
  • Wax paper

Directions:

  1. Stick a wooden stick into the center of each of the apples.
  2. Coat the wax paper with the butter, using a very generous amount.
  3. Combine the brown sugar, corn syrup, condensed milk, and butter in a large saucepan.
  4. Heat the mixture on a medium heat until it comes to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  5. Cook for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the caramel is semi-firm.
  6. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
  7. Dip the apples in the hot caramel mixture, making sure you coat most of the apple.
  8. Sprinkle the nuts or M&Ms on the apple evenly.
  9. Place the coated apples on the buttered wax paper to let them cool.
  10. Enjoy!
