Honey-Lemon Marmalade

In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to make a honey lemon marmalade. I'm actually not entire sure what to call it to be honest. It's really easy, and they can be used for a lot of things such as:

  • Sore Throats
  • Tea flavor
  • Toast Spread

When I make these I generally use them when I'm sick, but before I go more into that topic I am going to tell you what you're going to need in order to make this. I use all natural/organic ingredients. Depending on how many jars you want to make, the ingredients will vary. I am going to start your off with 4 Jars.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 Lemon
  • 4 Baby food Jars ( the smaller ones preferably, or you'll need 2 lemons)
  • Honey ( There is no set amount honestly, just enough to cover the lemons in the Jar)
  • Paper Towels
  • Sharp Knife [If you need help from a parent make sure to get it.]
  • Spoon

Instructions

For this project you can also use, Jam Jars or Canning Jars. They'll both work perfect for this, so if you have any of those feel free to use them. At Wal-mart they're relatively cheap, so it's not to expensive if you want to buy them.

First, you'll need to wash out your jar so you don't have any dust or anything it it. You want this to be a clean process so your honey doesn't mold over or your lemons become rotten.

Then, you'll want to cut your lemon into 8ths. Once you've done that, you'll want to cut the eighths into thin slices.

Fill each jar half way with the lemons. You can take the seeds out or keep them in, it doesn't really make much of a difference. (Just a warning, leaving the seeds in might cause them to sprout, this happened to my grandma a couple times so she takes the seeds out. It's never happened to me before though,)

Make sure you leave about an inch to the top of the lid to the jar, I made the mistake of filling it too much. When the juices from the Lemons come out into the honey, because they're two different consistancies the juice rises ontop of the honey causing it to over flow, so unless you want a mess then leave some space. Once a day for a week, make sure you turn it upside down then right side up three times all in one go. Kind of like shaking it. It keeps the flavors molded to gether.

After that it should be ready to use! You can use a decent spoonful in your tea, or you can put it in a cup and add hot water for your own version of thermaflu. My grandma uses it in cakes and cookies, and they turn out amazing. There are so many uses for this simple recipe, the posibilites are endless.
