Sweet Cornbread

Tired of bland and dry cornbread from premade mixes? Try this easy to do homemade recipe and enjoy!

What You Need


  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup of evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cup of whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs beaten

What You Do


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. In a second bowl, mix the brown sugar, vanilla extract, whole milk, evaporate milk, melted butter, and eggs together.
  4. Combine the two mixtures into the larger bowl. Using a handmixer or whisk, blend well until most of the lumps are out. Make sure all the ingredients are combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into a deep foil pan, or a greased baking dish.
  6. Allow the cornbread mix to bake for 55 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Make sure the center is cooked by placing a knife into the center, if it with a bit of cooked cornbread on it, it's ready.
  7. Allow the cornbread to cool out of the oven for at least five minutes before serving.
  8. Serve warm with butter.

Tips:


  • Store the remainder of the cornbread in it's baking pan and cover with foil.
  • Cornbread is great when paired with Easy Chili or served with warm honey drizzled on top.
