Sweet Cornbread
Tired of bland and dry cornbread from premade mixes? Try this easy to do homemade recipe and enjoy!
What You Need
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 1/3 cup sugar
- 3 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup melted butter
- 1 cup of evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 cup of whole milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 4 eggs beaten
What You Do
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
- In a second bowl, mix the brown sugar, vanilla extract, whole milk, evaporate milk, melted butter, and eggs together.
- Combine the two mixtures into the larger bowl. Using a handmixer or whisk, blend well until most of the lumps are out. Make sure all the ingredients are combined.
- Pour the mixture into a deep foil pan, or a greased baking dish.
- Allow the cornbread mix to bake for 55 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Make sure the center is cooked by placing a knife into the center, if it with a bit of cooked cornbread on it, it's ready.
- Allow the cornbread to cool out of the oven for at least five minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with butter.
Tips:
- Store the remainder of the cornbread in it's baking pan and cover with foil.
- Cornbread is great when paired with Easy Chili or served with warm honey drizzled on top.
