Swedish Meatballs

One of the things Sweden is mainly known for in the food department are the meatballs. Swedish Meatballs are known worldwide and are delicious, now here is the chance for you to try and make these by yourself, and experience why it's so famous.

Ingredients:

four portions

  • 1 ½ dl milk
  • 5 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 500 grams beef or mince.
  • ½ yellow onion (peeled and grated)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • butter or margarin

Directions:

  1. Mix the milk and breadcrumbs. Let it swell for 10 minutes.
  2. Add mince, onion, egg, salt, pepper and sugar in the bread crumbs mix and work the mince smooth.
  3. Moisten your hands with cold water and shape the meatballs. The water will make sure the meatballs won't stick to your fingers.
  4. Fry a few at a time in shortening, shake the pan occasionally so that the meatballs roll around and keep their round shape.
  5. Done! Serve the meatballs with boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes, with lingonberry jam and creamsauce.

For Everyone:

Gluten free: Use gluten-free breadcrumbs or polymer fiber.

Lactose: Use lactose-free milk and lactose-free margarine.

Milk protein: Replace the milk with oats, soy or ricealternatives, use breadcrumbs without milk and milk-free margarine.

Egg free: Exclude the egg.
