Goulash

Goulash is a Hungarian dish, but that doesn't mean you have to be Hungarian to make it. I never knew how to make this dish until I asked a friend of mine and she gave me her recipe.

  • Prep time - 15 minutes
  • Cook time - 30 minutes/ 1 hour (depends on what you use)

Things You Will Need

  • 1 cooking pot/slow cooker
  • 8 Bone-in/boneless chicken (whole)
  • 1 box of bow tie noodles
  • 2 large cans of tomatoes (whole, dieced or peeled)
  • 3-4 whole fresh tomotoes. (Sliced)
  • 3-4 green peppers. (Sliced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Hungarian paprika to taste
  • Vegetable oil
  • 3-4 Onions (sliced)
  • Sour cream
  • Shredded cheese

Directions

  1. In the pan place a tablespoon or more of the oil and heat it for a few minutes. You don't want to much oil because then it will become greasy.
  2. Slice up the onions and place them into the pot, stir them until nice and fried but not brown.
  3. Take chicken and place it into the pot with the onions, stir it around a bit for about five minutes.
  4. Once you have the onions and chicken together you can add your seasoning, don't go easy on the seasoning. Add as much as you want and feel it needs.
  5. Add the two cans of tomatoes, this will make the water for the goulash.
  6. Once the two cans are in, add the sliced and diced whole tomatoes along with the green peppers. Stir together, this will boil and add more juices to the goulash. There is no need to add any water.
  7. Place lid over pot and leave flame on medium, this will allow it to cook. Periodically check and stir, cook until the chicken falls off the bone or breaks apart.
  8. While the goulash is done cooking, in another pot boil the noodles for approx. 8-10 minutes. Once that is done you can then add the noodles into the goulash, stir.
  9. If you like Once you have your dish ready, add some sour cream into it. About two spoonfuls. Stir and then add the shredded cheese. Stir.
  10. Enjoy your meal.

You will have enough goulash to last you a week or more, depending how many you feed. Take the rest of the goulash and place it into a freezer bag/dish and freeze it until the next time you want some.
