Cold Brew Coffee

I might be one of iced coffee’s biggest fans out there. I drink iced coffee all year round. I don’t care if it’s 80 ˚ or 18˚, I’m going to be drinking iced coffee. Unfortunately, iced coffee is a lot more complicated to make than hot coffee. I’ve tried a lot of different brewing methods for iced coffee. The main one I stuck to was the typical coffeemaker brewing method and then putting it in the fridge for hours and hours to chill. It wasn’t that great, but it was drinkable. I finally got sick of mediocre iced coffee and decided to give cold brewing a try. And my goodness was it a fantastic decision! So I encourage all of you iced coffee fans out there to try out cold brewing. Even if you're not an iced coffee fan, I still highly urge you to try it.

What you need:

For Coffee Concentrate

  • 4 cups of cold water
  • 1 cup of coarsely ground coffee (whichever kind you prefer)
  • A jar with a lid that will hold 4 cups of water/coffee
  • A strainer + a coffee filter OR a cheese cloth OR a filter bag/nut milk bag

For Serving

  • ½ cup cold brew coffee concentrate
  • Sugar
  • 1/4 cup of half n half/ milk/ flavored creamer
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • Ice cubes

What you do:

How to Brew

  1. Take coarsely ground coffee and add to Jar
  2. Pour cold water over coffee grounds
  3. Stir with wooden or plastic spoon (NOT a metal spoon) making sure every ground of coffee is thoroughly saturated
  4. Put lid on jar, put jar in the fridge and let sit overnight, 12 hours at least
  5. After the coffee has brewed for 12 hours, take strainer of your choice, place over the opening of a new container, then pour coffee and grounds into strainer and wait till all coffee is strained, then place container of filtered coffee in fridge (Coffee should last for up to 7 days)

How to Serve

  1. Take ½ cup of cold brew coffee and add to the cup of your choice
  2. Pour in 1/4 cup milk, half n half, or flavored creamer (you can always add less if you prefer your coffee stronger, or more if you enjoy a creamier cup of coffee)
  3. Pour in 1/2
  4. Add as much or as little sugar as you want
  5. Stir everything together
  6. Add ice cubes and enjoy

You can serve the cold brew by adding together ½ cup of cold brew, 1/3 half and half, then pour in enough water till it’s at ½ cup. Next, take 1 ½ teaspoons of sugar, under a tablespoon of Caramel Syrup (eyeball it), and a generous squirt of whipped cream. Stir that all together really well and add ice cubes, a straw and enjoy.
