Blackberry Cobbler

In the southern part of the United States, it’s not uncommon to serve a pie or cobbler for the dessert dish, especially during the summer months. Most of these dishes are centered around whatever fruits are in season and easily found in the area. My personal favorite cobbler happens to be based around a berry that is currently in-season: the blackberry. There are quite a few wild blackberry bushes on my family’s farm, and it always makes me ridiculously excited when I gather up enough to make a decent cobbler.

This dish is best served warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and good company. This recipe yields around six-to-eight servings.

Ingredients:

  • One 16-ounce package of frozen blackberries or two cups fresh blackberries
  • One cup of self-rising flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • One cup of sugar
  • One cup of 2% milk
  • One stick of butter

Directions:

  1. Begin by spreading the blackberries across your baking dish.
  2. Then, mix your flour, sugar, and milk together in a large bowl.
  3. Slowly pour the mixture over the blackberries in your baking dish, making sure to coat them thoroughly.
  4. Melt the stick of butter in the microwave, then drizzle the melted butter across the top of your dish.
  5. Place the dish in the oven to bake at 350 degrees for about an hour, or until the top is a nice golden brown.
  6. Let the finished cobbler cool and enjoy!
