Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

This cookies recipe has been passed down in my family for generations. Almost every woman in my family knows it by heart and it’s a staple dessert whenever I visit grandparents or if they come to visit me. This recipe is very easy to follow and makes delicious, soft cookies!

What You Need:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter (or margarine)
  • 1 large egg (or 2 medium)
  • 1/4 cup of white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips

What You Do:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Cream together the brown sugar, butter (or margarine) and egg(s) with a wooden (or plastic) spoon. The mixture shouldn’t be lumpy, sometimes it takes a few minutes of mixing before the butter is fully combined with the other ingredients.
  3. Add the white sugar, vanilla and baking powder to the mixture. Mix these ingredients in until everything has a liquid consistency and is well combined.
  4. Mix in the flour and chocolate chips. Make sure the flour is well combined with the rest of the dough, but don’t overmix. If the dough seems overly sticky, add a little bit more flour.
  5. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray. Split your dough up into balls and place them on the cookie sheet. The cookies will expand quite a bit, so keep that in mind when placing the balls on the sheet.
  6. Bake the cookies for 9-12 minutes, depending on how dark you want them. Let the cookies cool before taking them off the cookie sheet.
