That Terrifying Kingdom Called High School.

You're an eighth grader. You're on top and you shove the sixth graders around, knowing they don't know half of your knowings. You walk through the school that your rule. It's your kingdom. You're the top dog. Then the school year ends, and you realize it. Your kingdom comes crashing down and you start back at being the poor peasant. You think you're going to be humiliated by the kings and queens.

You're a freshman in high school. It's your first day, and you're terrified. Though guess what? High school isn't scary. Everyone knows life on TV for a teenager is so unrealistic. On TV, teenagers wear designer clothing and have the most amazing parties and have professional hair and impossibly good looks. There are bullies that steal lunch money and shove nerds into the locker.

In real life, it's much more boring. People wear sweatpants and the hair is casual and the parties are mostly legal. Bullies are hardly physical anymore, and if they are - the schools will not let it slide. High school is not scary. Though to a freshman, here are a few words of advice coming from a stupid senior.

So, you walk into the school and you're trying to find your locker, friends, and first period. You look down at your appearance, hoping you look good. You see the seniors, who are some how very tall and look so old. You see a few juniors laying down on the benches, drinking their sodas. You see a few sophomres, and you take a double-take, thinking they're checking you out. Then you see people you know. Other freshmen.

You find your locker and fiddle with the combination. My advice to you is to use your locker. There are people who will shove every book into their bag and have all their binders and never use their locker. That's not smart, okay? You have time to go to your locker between classes. Skip talking to friends and just go to your locker. Use it and your back will not be sore.

Now then, you look into your locker and realize it's the first day and that you don't need anything. You casually shut it and try to find your first period class, knowing you'll be safe in there. You pass a bathroom and keep that location in mind. Finally, you get to your first class.

You sit down in a desk and pray to baby Jesus you have a friend in there. You keep your fingers crossed that they'll have the same lunch with you. If a friend or two comes into the classroom, give a sigh of relief. Exchange schedules, see what classes and lunches you have. Sit, and talk, knowing you're in the clear.

If no friends come into your first period class, don't freak. There's always the next one(s) before lunch. Now, let's say you see someone you kind of know but don't really talk to sitting alone and looking for one of their friends. If they're a jerk, don't bother. If they're a cool person that's easy to talk with, talk to them. Make new friends. A lot of people say you won't have the same friends at the end of your high school career as you did before, and that can be true. For me, I have the same friends. For others, they ended up finding their best friends. Talk with them because they're probably wanting to talk to you, too, hoping for a person who's freaking out like them.

If there is absolutely no one you know in that class, then you have a few options. One, you can sit and not talk to anyone, which isn't as pathetic as you think. There are a few people that will pull you to them, like some upperclassmen. My friends always scout out for the people sitting alone, wanting to make new friends. If an upperclassman is nice to you, then they're genuinely being nice. They're not faking it and they probably know how you feel. If some senior is talking to you, don't be annoying. So don't talk or try to be funny or smooth. Just be yourself. Be casual. Go ahead and say some stuff, but don't interrupt or be rude or crude. If you don't want to just sit there, then talk to people. Again, don't be annoying. That's what makes an upperclassman annoyed of a freshman. Keep that in mind.

Now, onto second period. I don't know what your schedule might be, but let's just say this is the class period before lunch. If you had a friend in first who has the same lunch as you, you're lucky. If you still haven't come across any friends, and there aren't any in second, then that's fine, too. Now, first period can be boring. It usually is. For some reason, second period seems to be the favorite class. It's when you're actually awake and things seem to get rolling. Even if you have no friends, it will typically be fun.

Now, let's say it's the afternoon and it's first lunch. Let's talk about food. Some schools have nasty food, and some have amazing food. Don't be afraid to look around. At my school, we don't really have lines. We all shove through each other and try to get the processed food. Let's talk about friends and where to sit. Don't have any friends? Then sitting alone is perfectly fine. If you sit alone, then don't look around. It draws more attention to yourself and I'm certain you don't want any of that. Sit casually and think "IDGAF, this food is delicious/horrible!" I'm certain someone will say, "Hey, kid, come sit with us!" So go join them. They probably know what it's like to sit alone and they know you probably feel miserable. Or, you can ask to sit with some people. If you're going to do that, then just go balls out and ask to sit with people you've never met. Make new friends.

Finally, there's the class after lunch. You're probably tired and full and don't want to do much. Or, you can be all wound up and ready for the rest of the day. Either way, this class is when you look at tomorrow. Start seeing what classes you have with other people for tomorrow and lunch. This class can be very bland, or exciting. Overall, it's the most relieving class of the day.

Finally, it's the last class of the day. Don't have any friends? No big deal. Talk to people if you'd like, but you don't have to. The school day is over, and you go home, knowing something amazing is going to happen for the next four years.

But, I still have some more advice. For one thing, make the most of your high school career. Many freshman waste their freshman year. Don't get involved in drama and don't act like high school is so serious. Have fun and realize that being a teenager won't last forever. High school is a journey and it's one that should be fun.

Also, get active in the school. Join clubs, sports, activities, etc. Don't play sports? Okay, then don't. There aren't any clubs you'd be interested in? Then create one! Let's say you and your friends love reading. Then create a reading club or something. You're allowed to and it's not that hard. My friend and I created a club, and it's a blast! Also, go to games. Have school spirit. Not having school spirit means you're too full of it. If you don't have school spirit then the only reason is because you think it's stupid. School spirit is fun. It's homecoming week? Dress up for those days! Get involved in the stupid school events they have because being stupid is fun! It's a part of your high school career. Don't miss out on the big things. Go to games with friends and go to the dances and simply enjoy your high school career.

Anyway, I hope you freshmen take my advice, because if you don't and when you become a senior, then you'll regret it. High school is a time to explore, grow, and live. So please, make the most of it.
