How to Setup a New Tumblr Account

This tutorial is all about teaching people how to customize their Tumblr blog, follow people, and other useful Tumblr tips.

To begin blogging on Tumblr, first you have create an account.

Making an Account

1. Once on the website, in the upper right hand corner there is a button that says "Sign Up". Click it.
2. Enter in your e-mail address, a password, and your custom url.
3. Enter the correct CAPTCHA code to prove you're human.
4. A window will pop up that says "Make your first post," skip that for now and wait for the next window to come up.
5. Enter in your preferred name of your blog and upload a picture of yourself. Once you do that, it will take you to your profile.

Customizing Your Profile

1. Click INFO in the upper left hand corner. Type a short description of your blog/yourself. Here you can also change your url and picture if you wish to.
2. Then click on THEMES. Pick a theme you like for your blog.
3. Click on APPEARANCE and change the settings for your profile. Settings differ for each theme so just read through it all.
4. Click PAGES. If you want, you can add another page to your blog with additional things on it.
5. Click SERVICES. If you want you can link your other social networking accounts to your Tumblr here.
6. Click COMMUNITY. Here you can change the guidelines for posting on your page. This is very useful if you don't want people you don't know to bother you.
7. Lastly, click ADVANCED. Here you can change your language, timezone and other settings. That's about it for your Page!

Tumblr Tips

To post something to your blog, simply go to your Dashboard. At the top it will give you the option of posting a Text blog (just basic words), Photo (picture with a caption), Quote (something someone said), Link (link to an external website or another tumblr blog), Chat (a conversation between people), Audio (a song or other audio clip), Video (a video clip).

To follow someone, go to the directory at the top and look for people.  Once you're following someone, their post will show up on your dashboard.

If you want to put something they say on your page you can Reblog. To reblog, click REBLOG on the top right of their post. It will give you the option to write someting of your own. Then click REBLOG POST.  The post will then show up on your page.
