Improve Your Writing
We all want to improve our writing, right? Isn't that one of the reasons for joining a site like this? Well, as many teachers say, there's always room for improvement. Especially with something like literature, you can never stop improving, there are endless possibilities for the stories or poems or blogs you create! So, without further introduction, here are a few quick tips to help better your writing ability and comfort in particular areas of writing.
1. Read.
Reading is one of the key parts of becoming a successful and overall good writer. Reading will help you find different ways of putting ideas, such as dialogue tags, or synonyms for frequently used words. Reading a wide variety of authors can also help you understand different view points of different situations. If you've never experienced incredible writing, how do you expect to write incredibly yourself?
2. Practice.
They say practice makes perfect, and it's true! The more you practice, the more your writing will begin to improve. It doesn't matter if you look up an inspiring prompt and just write off of that, or if you create stories in your head of people you see on the bus or around town. As long as you practice, you're garunteed to improve.
3. Be Organized.
Organization is a great way to help keep yourself in line. If you have a good idea for a future part in a story you're creating, or lyrics you're writing, or have a great idea for a stanza in a poem, make sure to write it down somewhere, anywhere. It's always a great idea to keep a notepad with you, or a phone where you can type notes into and easily retrieve.
4. Accept Criticism with Open Arms.
Being able to handle criticism is a very helpful attribute to many writers. Many people are just trying to help you along your way to book-publishing, so it's a good idea to consider their ideas and thoughts. It's a helpful tool to be able to accept other's ideas, so you can improve yourself and your writing.
5. Never Give Up.
It's over-said and seems cliché for me to say it, but it's true. Keep your head up, your pencil and pad always open, and don't let anyone bring you down! Continue on writers, create something beautiful. I believe in you!
