5 More Ways to Overcome Writer's Block

After scoping through my previous articles I noticed a comment on my last tutorial called, '5 Ways to Overcome Writer's Block.' The commenter wished the five methods worked for them, and I'm here to give 5 more that may work for someone the previous 5 didn't.

Method One: Sleep on it

Most cases of writer's block are caused by not knowing where to take your story/poem next. If you've been with Mibba for around a month or two, you probably know about the lucid dreaming articles. When suffering from writer's block, one can have a lucid dream and dream about their story/poem.

Be sure to keep a dream journal, and don't take the first dream you have. Wait a few nights just to be sure about an idea, and it should at least help, if not cure, your writer's block.

Method Two: Work on Something Else

Try digging up an old story and working on it for awhile. This method has proven useful for me more than once, and I continue to use it today. You could dig up a story from when you first started writing and rewrite it, but some may prefer to dig up a more recent story and read it/write it.

Method Three: Take a Break

I like to think of one of the main causes of writer's block is soemthing I call 'creativity exhaustion', which is where you don't take breaks while writing, and you exhaust your creativity/imagination. This is not a certified illness, or a real thing, I just like to think this way, since there hasn't been a cause of writer's block discovered yet.

I use this method, though I don't prefer it. It gets boring, waiting around until you can write again. There is also no knowledge of how long it will take, my most recent case lasted two days, while anyone's can last several years. This is basically waiting out the block.

Method Four: Relax!

Go to the spa, or get a massage, anything to relax. Spend that time not thinking about your writing, and just wind down. Let yourself be taken in by the sweet, computer-generated sounds of the ocean and reflect on your day. Was it good or bad? What were your favorite parts, or your least favorite?

Take this time to take in some philosophy about life, or think up your own. You can even daydream, which could help with your block by thinking up a new story. Anything is possible when you imagine!

Method 5: Break Your Routine

Just do something different, or new. Listen to a band you despise, or try a new food. Heck, go bungie jumping, or scream at traffic. Anything that entertains you, while at the same time is not in your daily schedule. This should help you loosen up and enjoy yourself. No need being uptight and following the same schedule every day.

The end... or is it?

Hope this helps!
