^ If you're looking for a low cost camera you should try at second hand shops. It's a good way to get a decent camera without having to rob a bank. Just be careful where you buy it from.

I have an odd question.
How do you take a photograph of the moon? What kind of special lens do you need?
Because I get to see the moon in all these weird, beautiful colors -from pale yellow to really golden to orange and even red and rosy- and it kills me that I have no idea how I could take a picture of it.

That's not too bad. . .

I would love to have a Canon EOS Rebel. Cheese

I'd like something like that.

Thats what I have.
My god, I love it. In Love

Wow
I just got the now Canon Eos Rebel XSi (450D).
It cost an arm and a leg (compared to like, a Nikon D60 anyway) but it really is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. It's my baby.

Yeah, it's pretty good, except it's been replaced by the D40X, and then the D60. However, the D40X and the D60 are pretty much the same as the D40, they just have more pixels.
So consider the price, and whether the extra mps and features are worth it. Also take a peek on the internet, there are some good articles like this that can help you out.

In Aus, it's not possible to walk into a store and get the D40 anymore. I was going to get it but went for with my love of Sony instead.

Question about lenses...

I know nothing about them what so ever. And with trying to be a music photographer/photo journalism I was wondering if anyone could give me an tips for what I should look for in lenses Sony wise. Smile

This is aimed mainly at Sara, but if anyone has anything that would be of any help... Nyam

Question:
A long time ago my photography teacher said never to center your main object, is that good advise? (He was kind of ... silly.)

I don't own a Sony and never have, but I assume Sigma or another third party makes compatible. Basically though, You will need something long, 125mm+ and perferablly unless your camera has image stabilization in it, get a lens with it. I just bought a 18 - 125mm from Sigma and I can zoom in across my room and read a piece of paper on my bulletin board a good 13-15 feet away. But we warned, when you have a lens like that your images will get darker, I've been having to shoot at 1600asa and longer shutter speeds to get decent lighting and colours to my pictures. But if you have good lighting [out side] you can shoot back at 100/200asa. You may also want to use filters, but I hate using them, so I would talk to the guy at the store (:

tl;dr, Look for third party lenses, And something 125mm+ and be warned they will turn out darker.

prices
[the first one listed there is the same one I have for my k10d.]

ps, When you go into the store, to buy a new lens, bring your camera so you can test it out. And make sure the mounts work together.

Unless it is artistically pleasing, you use the Rule of Thirds.

Holy crap! Thank you so much! I didn't know about the darker part of it... I am still a newbie with when it comes to lenses and DSLR's.

And thanks for the link and the tip about taking my camera with me!

At the moment am doing most of my work with the generic one that came with it and have my first gig that i am shooting on Saturday with it. Am slightly nervous.

But thanks again.. I know a bit to do with filters and i think I am of the same mind. Plus it's getting to a stage with photoshop these days, that you can do almost anything there.

Don't get me wrong, I actually don't like touching any of my photos other than the main changes, but some people just put more effort into editing there pictures rather than actually taking it.

Wow.

If you have 7 minutes to waste, watch that. It's a guy in LA [?] that uses a camera the size of a trailer and the photos that he can make with it. Wow.

Quick question:
Does anybody know if the optio E30 by Pentax, is a good camera to use? I'm starting to get into photography and this is the only camera in our house. So, help?

The E10 is a piece of crap. But from the reading I've done about the E30, it seems like a good camera. The only cons listed on a bunch of sites was that it was ugly and the shutter may lag, but it's comparable to any other camera of it's kind. If you have the manual it would be nice to read and learn how to change the shutter speed manually because the problem i found with a lot of Pentax point and shoots is that they have redicusally long shutter speeds. Also if you shot in fast motion mode [the one with the little man running] that should help, or in S mode, either or, your shutter will be fast [and that's a good thing]

Specs

Also, I don't know about that one or not, but my E10 eats AA batteries like candy, and doesn't with rechargeable ones, so if you don't already, use rechargeable ones.
