Thanks. And does that count on portrait photos?
Does it make a difference how many people are in the picture? |

Does it make a difference how many people are in the picture? Usually. But it's totally up to you. There are no rules in photography, just general guidelines.

Age: 69 Gender: Female Posts: 551 | August 4th, 2008 at 04:56am Okay, so I need some help.
I've just recently started getting really into photography, and I love it. The only problem is that i'm stuck with a crappy, two year old digital camera with a low megapixel count.
My mom said I could get a real camera for my birthday, and if I give her the model name she'll start searching eBay immediately. (pshh, like we can afford a new one, xD)
So, does anyone have any suggestions on a good begginer model? I don't want it to be super beginner, just something easy-to-use and somewhat proffesional. And lots of megapixels, or course, since obviously 5.0 isin't doing the trick.
Help? |

Help? Read these. They're long and big and scary but worth it.
Before asking which digital camera or lens check this thread
Attack of the megapixels! this one especially.
Anyone buying anything -- read this thread first!
Also, what kind of beginner? P&S or DSLR? Also, affordability, a bunch of the major leaders are or have released new models and if you search around enough you can the older model for redicislly good prices. [If you're searching for a DSLR.] |

Age: 69 Gender: Female Posts: 551 | August 4th, 2008 at 06:43am ^Oh wow, thank you so much. That gave me so much to consider.
Thing is, I know nothing about cameras, which is why I just need a simple camera that will help me learn to become better until i'm ready to cram my brain with all of this... stuff. xD
From what i've read, I think I want a P&S DSLR, but then again, everything i've read is complicated and hard to get a good idea of what the camera is like.
Thanks again for all your help =] |

What's the deal on Fujifilms? Good or not so good? What about this camera; does it look alright? Please reply, anyone!
Thanks in advance! |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 3485 | August 6th, 2008 at 07:04am Fujifilm's I find are very high in detail. You are aware you can't change lenses with that one right? It's a high end point and shoot.
It has 10mp, can shoot in macro and takes videos. Has face recognition.
I think if you're not ready to go into DSLR, it would make a fine suitor : D
Just make sure you play with it in the store. Make sure you are 100% happy with it. |

Age: 69 Gender: Female Posts: 551 | August 6th, 2008 at 08:09am Yeah I know that it's a P&S, but it's also a heck of a lot cheaper than DSLRs. And if it's a good camera, why should I pay extra money for something that would probably give me the same quality pictures?
But ooooh, I found this.
From what i've read/seen, it's a good camera, but... -needs advice- D:
Oh, and thanks again (Sara) on your advice and help
EDIT: And the reason i'm asking so many questions is because i'll be buying my camera online, on eBay, or else I can' afford it... so seeing the camera in real life, unless I get lucky and find it somewhere, I won't be able to see and test it out for myself before I buy it. |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 31 | August 6th, 2008 at 01:15pm ^ I recently got a Fujifilm Finepix S9600 and I freakin' love it. It does tend to underexpose, but that can easily be sorted. The pictures are such good quality.
I recommend Fujifilms, definately. |

I say Fujifilms if you want something easy to understand and that isn't too expensive.
I have an Olympus E-510 and it's amazing. It's quite complicated though. I think Canon is even better quality.
Just saying. |

I know I've never been in this thread before, but I have a little problem.
I'm currently stuck in between buying an Olympus FE-310 or a Pentax Optio E60 - any suggestions which one I should get are greatly appreciated. |

Mitchell Davis uses that
His photographs are always amazing so I presume so. I believe Bell-Z used that too.
I'm not sure on this, but aren't the rebel's slightly older? I'm sure when I looked on the Canon website, they don't sell them anymore. The EOS range seemed pretty popular.
Canon's are very pricey though, they're one of the most expensive brands
I have a Sony Alpha, as a good amateur camara, it's wonderful. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 3485 | August 15th, 2008 at 05:17pm ^The Canon Rebel line is getting old, but they're still releasing new models. They can get expensive, the camera I would love to own one day the E03 Mark III is 20 000$ but I can find last year's Rebel in WalMart for 400/500$. So depends on what end of the scale you buy on xD
Canon, basically with the amount of people that use it, you can assume it's not crap. Because if it was, why are sooooo many people using it? [And I've played around with one, the XTI I think, and it seemed really nice, I just got confused D:]
I wanted to look into the Alpha's but I couldn't find a store that carried them, so I bought my Pentax which I'm completely happy with and wouldn't trade for the world. |

Same.
I felt like a preschooler holding a camera for the first time.
But getting there, and need to have another look at the manual.
One mistake I won't again, and holy hell is this gonna make me look stupid, but the first time I used my DSLR, I accidently held my hand in front of the flash.
Never doing that shit again. |

What's the best setting to use on it to take good photos at gigs? Mine all seem to come out really rubbish when I take them using the "auto" setting. |
