I'm a vegetarian. I have been for a while now.

It's a bit harder when the rest of your family eats meat, and keeps taunting you with it Rolling Eyes

Actually I've just read an article on how bad is it for kids not to eat meat or dairy products, especially milk when they are still young.
Also we actually do need meat. Meat is brainfood and our ancestors used to eat it and we still have the same genes as they did.
As a matter of fact my mum's a doctor too, and she's not a vegetarian and she was actually the one who stopped me from becoming one.

I would rather eat a stake than take a pill.

Well I think that is bullshit.
I've never eaten meat. I've been vegetarian since the day I was born as my parents were vegetarian and I'm perfectly healthy and manage to achieve good grades in school. So 'meat is brainfood' is rubbish, as I seem to get along just fine without it. You can make up for lost protein in pulses and lentils.

I was vegan for a few months but grew ill, so I will admit that as a young child, dairy foods are important for health, but meat isn't.

I accept that other people have different opinions, and I am willing to listen to them. I do not agree with eating meat, but it does not mean that I will not hear other people's point of view. But, no offense, but I think it is a little narrow minded to say that meat is 'brainfood'.

I'm not vegan but I agree.
Plus why does everyone go on about pills? I've never ever had any type of pill, and I rarely eat meat. You do not need stupid amounts of pills if you do not want to eat meat, unless you have a deficiency of some kind which requires you to get extra iron.

It depends on your diet. Meat provides protein, iron, zinc, B vitamins, selenium, vitamin D, and long chain omega-3s. (just red meat alone). It also depends on your body type, age and other factors on how much of each vitamin and mineral you need. If you can get them without meat or pills good for you.
fish has been proven to be brainfood Shifty
Just not the fish that have mercury, that makes you sick.

I understand the fish has been proven to be brainfood, but that doesn't mean that all meat is brainfood. It doesn't mean that without fish and/or meat you will be dumb.

I think if you take good care of yourself and make sure you get your protein, as I said before, through pulses and lentil, then you'll be fine without meat.

I'm a vegetarian and an aspiring vegan! Basically, I haven't eaten meat in six months, and I avoid dairy and eggs as much as possible, but there are sometimes when my mum is just like " You need to eat something!" So I eat some of my vegan "chicken" nuggets. Then she's all " You need some calcium! You're too pale!" So she makes me eat some cheese or something. Does Calcium have ANYTHING to do with being pale? Seriously...

Uhh...No...
But calcium has to do with osteoporosis...And if you don't know what that is, it's a degenerative bone disease in which your bones become brittle and break and shit.
Calcium is very essential and besides dairy, it's really really hard to get it.

Mhm. That's hella true. Maybe you should just be a vegetarian? I mean, not saying it's bad to be a vegan or anything, but your mom seems to care about your health, and being a vegan is best when you can buy your own food on your own. If I were to become a vegan, It'd probably be when I move out of my parents house, 'cause then I wouldn't have anyone on my back about it. It is good to try and not eat as much dairy food, in excess, it's really bad. Especially eggs, it has cholesterol like WOAH.

I have to force myself to drink milk =\
I can drink chocolate milk (that isn't mixed) but not white milk (doesn't matter what percentage, brand, soy, non-soy, lactose it all makes me sick)

Paleness typically has to do with lack of iron, maybe get your blood checked? If you have low red blood cell count and high white cell count, that might be your problem.

My town is ran by a forestry company.

They cut down trees for the paper, desk, pencils, furniture etc., you use. Are you going to stop using all those mentione because trees get cut down?

But we replant our trees and we don't clear cut.

Most paper comes from forests that are planted for it. But, when they start interfering with the rain forest, that's fucked up. Books and paper grocery bags sometimes are made from recycled paper, as well. People need to start recycling. It really makes no sense not to.Shifty

^ ^ ^ lol. My friend gave up vegetarianism for bacon.

______

For what people are saying about 'needing meat in human diet' =/ I've been a veggie for over 2 years now, and well, basically, I'm alive aren't I. lol. no but seriously I do consider my diet to be quite healthy, apart from the odd bit of junk food now and again. But I personally can live without eating meat.

You can, I can't.

Some people do need meat in their diets. Just because you don't doesn't mean the next person doesn't Smile

But congrats on being a vegetarian for that long.

Why? Why do you need it in your diet? Unless you've got a deficiency of some kind which requires you to get the protein etc. in meat then you will be okay without it.
I think the average person can do without meat if they set their mind to it.

Ah, then it's fine, because you really need it.
I just personally think that if you can avoid meat [which in your case you can't] then you should at least try.

...Not saying that I disagree with you, which I don't necessarily, but I would be interested to know what you think they are used for besides.

animals eat other animals and plants
So do humans, so what's the big deal?
That's the way I see it.
We're technically animals (mammals)

Our teeth were designed to cut through meat.

I get ticked off when a vegetarian tries to pressure me..and that's when I take a bite out of my steak. (I don't do that unless they tick me off first. Push me. I'll push you back Smile ) But if you mind your business and leave me be while I eat, I won't have a problem.

I wasn't trying to offend anyone, but it just seems a little heartless, and a little bit selfish to say "That living thing is only here to be processed through my stomache."

Also, by that I meant that we aren't the top of the food chain. Compare us to a lion, then maybe you'll get my idea. We weren't born with claws, a great ability to run extremely fast, or fangs. Although we do have a couple teeth that are a little sharp, we have other teeth that seem to be fit for an herbavore[sp?]. We are very intelligent, but I'm not sure if I think that's meant for eating. Who knows what that's for.

Just like Dirty.LittleRockstar said, we are just animals. But, I see it in a different context. We aren't superior; we're just like every other animal. I don't think it's our place to say "That animal is meant to go through my stomache.

As for princess.'s question... why are any of us here?

Did I clear up what I meant?
