I have a question...
Are veggie burgers alright to eat, are they still considered vegetarian.
Please do not flame me for this, I am new at being vegetarian.
I assume they're alright, but I just want to make sure.

Happy face: Veggie burgers are wonderful. Can't count the many times I have envied Vegs for that one reason.

Because it's totally illegal to eat them if you aren't vegetarian. Razz

It so is with my friends. They get very pissed when I get veggie burgers... But I managed to get them at home a few times.

This one time they served veggie burgers at my school, and I was so happy. Happy face

I was vegetarian for 2 years but then I stopped seeing the point and just stopped. I guess it's a matter of personal opinion. I don't see how anyone could be vegan, just so hard! But to all the vegans out there, wow wow wow you've got to be a strong person to keep that up.

To each, their own, of course. And really, it's not a matter of how strong you are. The way I see it, it's just the things you eat, it's only fuel for your body.
So why not help yourself, and animals while your at it?
Being a vegan is surprisingly easy when you don't think about what your missing out on.(And quite frankly, I don't think I'm missing anything.)

It's all about perspective. I know a girl who is vegetarian simply because she hates the taste and texture of meat. For her, it's very easy.

Definitely, it's really all in your head. My whole family are vegans, so it makes it easier for me, but my brother and I don't even eat protien meat, simply because it looks like meat.
Even though we know perfectly well that it's not meat at all.

An interesting fact- some vegans replace the protein in their diet with protein supplements that are made from animal products anyway... d'oh. I get protein shakes at the gym that contain ground up bones and 'meat extract'.

It's ironic to think that the ones who don't do their research are just going the long way about eating a lower-quality animal product.

Shocked Are you serious? That's horrible! Well, I won't be having any protein supplements; I'll stick to nuts and other wonderful things, thanks.

I was vegetarian for three weeks two summers ago.
: /
After a while, ...I'm not sure, really. I just felt like it wasn't going anywhere, and not helping anything, including animals.

A friend of mine has been vegan for FIVE YEARS.
I honestly don't know how she manages.
I admire her for her committment.

I hope she stays one for longer, it feels so rewarding, every single year.

Well, it's not as though it's any more cruel than regular meat- it's just made from the leftovers. Granted, I'm sure it would be still frustrating for vegetarians who avoid meat for any moral reason, if they found that out.

I'm sure you could get wholly artificial supplements somewhere though, before you go swearing off them.

^You can get supplements without any animal products in them.
I take them and I spent ages looking for ones without gelatin in them. XD

See, I would be a proud meat-eater if I didn't know what happened to the animals. I would love it if the animals weren't treated so badly, if they weren't bred just for food, and if they were wholy used.

However, most people in America are paying- the food shortage had begun.

With rice to start if off...

I'm a vegetarian. I havn't been for very long, on October 21st it will be my first Vegetarian birthday ^_^

I became a vegetarian because I think it's gross. When you eat a burger, what your putting in your mouth was once an actual living thing, it had feelings, and now your mashing it up with your teeth.
I think it's cruel and un-necessary to kill a living thing when there are so many meat-free substitutes.

You wouldn't eat your pet dog, so why is it okay to eat pigs and cows ect?

xx

I agree with you 100%

What makes some animals okay to eat, and others not to be?

Eating hamburgers and hot dogs disgust me. It's repulsive. I have wanted to become vegetarian since April, and I battled with chicken, but now I am slowly becoming vegetarian. I started this week Smile

... I'm not trying to be mean, but cows are cuddly and cute- no feelings. They don't have a large enough neo cortex to comprehend what humans do.

First off, don't sign xx at the end of your posts, as it is counted as spam. You may add it to your signature if you'd like.

Secondly, every type of animal is eaten on the globe. It just so happens that the Anglo-saxons waste more of the animal then they use. In other countries, they wholy use the animal and they need it, too.

There are places where they eat dog. It's a cultural thing.

Okay, I'm super excited because I'm going veggie starting now. I just hope, hope with all of my heart, that I'm not hauled into the hospital.

Wish me luck on going veggie!
