I should! I can finally get veggie burgers without my friends yapping at me. Thank you! |

Wish me luck on going veggie!
I'm going to go one better than luck and give you advice.
I'm not vegetarian, but I know a lot about nutrition on account of various other conditions. Do your research- if you're going to give up meat, you need to make up what it would account for in your diet. For one thing, meat is your main source of essential protein. The average person needs about 100g per day- so that's four serves of nuts, or eight of milk, eggs or cheese. You'll also need iron (tablets are good, otherwise dairy or tons of legumes), calcium (900mg- dairy, enriched soymilk, some supplements), and good fats and omega oils (nuts, canola oil, margarine, fish oils).
Going vegetarian isn't just about cutting out a huge food group, so you have to compromise with your diet. Be sensible and I'm sure you'll do fine. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 239 | July 26th, 2008 at 06:34pm I'm not a vegetarian. But I don't eat pork, I simply don't like it. I have the occasional steak or burger maybe once every three months or so, but the rest of the time, I eat things without meat or chicken/turkey. It would be very hard for me to be strictly veg. My parents wouldn't have it. Although I heard that it's great for losing weight and getting healthy. So I might do it for a while.
I have a friend who is a vegan and he does not get the proper amount of iron, protein or anything. I'm not saying all vegans don't but, my friend surely doesn't. He has pale, pale skin, he's about 5'5 and weighs 92 pounds, and has fainted on several occasions because he hadn't ate that day. Although, that may simply be his mother starving him. |

It's hard to find vegetarian-friendly soups!
I need to find a store like that (: |

Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 334 | July 29th, 2008 at 01:58am I'm a vegetarian and have been one for awhile. I eat eggs, and a little bit of fish (not very much, and I'm slowly cutting it out.) I just couldn't eat meat with a clear conscience, and I've seen how animals are handled. Not good.
With that, I'm not judgemental at all, and if someone eats meat in front of me I don't mind...unless they try to get me to eat it too, which some have. That I mind. |

I eat too much to ignore what I need. I hate nuts though...
And I drink a ton of milk, goat and cow.

Age: 20 Gender: Female Posts: 351 | July 29th, 2008 at 05:07am ^ They're pretty good, but vegetarians have to be wary of convenience foods just like anyone else. In particular, if you're going vegetarian you need to be sure your diet isn't lacking in nutrition.
A diet mainly of raw or fresh fruits and nuts, eggs, milk, cheese and fish (if you are so inclined) with the odd convenience food or meat substitute would be tons better for making up the protein, calcium, iron and vitamins you need in a day. A good way to assess your diet as having enough vitamin variety is by thinking about colour- a rich diet should involve eating about 30 different coloured foods per day. |

Age: 13 Gender: Female Posts: 259 | July 29th, 2008 at 06:16am I became a vegetarian in early March, and have been since. I think being vegan would be much to hard, however, as I love drinking milk.. And ice cream.. And a lot of other delicious foods that include milk, eggs, cheese, etc.
I became a vegetarian because I highly loathe animal cruelty, and think animals should be treated as humans, not butchered up to feed our fat faces. (No offense or anything lol)
And, I was watching a video of Frank Iero discussing it, and someone posted a link to a site for more information on youtube. So technically, it's Iero's fault, as my mama puts it. |

My dad keeps openly insulting me about my vegetarianism. At first he just didn't approve of it, now hes openly insulting me and practically force feeding me meat. He hasn't suceeded, though. I have told him I've been vegetarian for a YEAR and am not quitting now, but it's really pissing me off.
My friend was eating some bacon he made for breakfast, and he's all, "See, Catie, she's NORMAL. Being 'vegetarian' is absurd."
Stuff like that. I need some help :/ |
