Ghostwriter Age: 21 Gender: Female Posts: 17965 | Pixiesan: Homosexuality was not considered appropriate when discussed in the Old Testament because the Jews were trying to build a great kingdom. It's hard to populate a great kingdom if you aren't reproducing. Abomination in the old days simply met "against tradition". In the New Testament, Paul refers to homosexuality. He refers to promiscuous homosexuality, which is what the Romans and Greeks they hated frequently partook in. Never in the Bible does it damn a monogamous homosexual relationship. |

| Skrillex. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 1172 | I think it's amazing how people can stand out and be different. One thing though is when straight people give rude remarks on homosexuals and bisexuals, when seen in a same sex relationship. It goes the same when homosexuals and bisexuals make comments on heterosexual relationships. meh. :/ |

| the celestial teapot Fanfic Fanatic Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1058 | ChemicallyImbalanced: I have a pair of rainbow converse. Every time I wear them people give me disgusted looks and I get craploads of people asking me if I'm gay. (Which I am, but still, it's annoying.) I don't get why people feel the need to ask. And I don't get why they feel the need to scoot away or switch seats or something like that when you answer honestly. It's just.........ugh. Irritating, is all. |

| Freddie Mercury. Grammar Guru Age: 68 Gender: Male Posts: 5561 | I don't think it's fair that people would just come up to you and ask if you're gay or whatever. It's like walking up to a random and asking what size bra they wear, it's just plain rude. Who cares if people are gay? Love is love. |
| Kurtni O'Hara Database Error Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 3417 | I keep seeing the "love is love" thing posted over and over. I don't think so. In the case of sexulaity, yes. But, if a 30 year old man and 10 year old girl were "in love", I don't think that could be justified with the "love is love" logic, because it's not that simple. |
| Isis Cliché Catastrophe Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 463 | Kurtni St. Cyr: Yeah, you're right. Once upon a time, not too long ago, I used to say the same thing. But then I was reading this thread months ago, and saw what 'love is love' would actually mean, and I refrain from phrasing it that way, now. Sex shouldn't matter in love. That's better said, I suppose. |
| ChemicallyImbalanced Wordsmith Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 10204 | Kurtni St. Cyr: It's the same with parent and young child incest, I think. I'm not sure if all people making the statement 'love is love', factor these things into it. |

| kafka. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 3011 | Kurtni St. Cyr: Love is love and sex is sex. I see nothing wrong in a 30 year old man loving a 10 year old girl. Loving her, completely platonic. We're not as much bothered by love but by sex. I find absolutely ridiculous how you're expected to have a certain ''lifestyle'' if you're gay. Flash rainbows and be ''boheme'' and like ''gay'' art -which btw is in most cases rubbish- wear a certain kind of clothes. I think it's that stupid, we expect others to see past the stereotypes but we surround ourselves with them. -I'm just mad because every ''gay'' movie or book I've read was completely rubbish because it was written/directed so it would be gay rather than just human, so that it would tell us a tragico-dramatic story about one aspect of the ''gay'' lifestyle instead of telling a story about human beings. I think your sexuality is absolutely irrelevant, I choose not to identify myself with mine. |
| Bloodraine Fanfic Fanatic Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 1329 | dark.: It seems a bit simplistic to make out like those two are mututally exclusive things, though. If anyone has read the novel Lolita, then perhaps they'll get the distinction more. Humbert Humbert professes his love for nymphets on almost every page of the book, and it is a real, passionate, uncontrollable love. He loves Lolita to the point of madness. But he also kidnaps her and has sex with her, because he is driven by that love. The love in itself also 'bothers' some people, because it is not platonic love, it is obsessive love. 'Love is love' is one of my very favourite most overused arguments ever, which sucks, because it's a bad argument anyway. It doesn't take a genius to make that assertion. Love is love, clearly, but does that justify, for example, incest? I would argue not. |
| kafka. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 3011 | Bloodraine: Obsessive love is a mental disorder, not love. And when it comes to incest, an incestuous relationship implies sexual attraction and sex. Again it's the sex, most people love their siblings and we see nothing wrong in that. |
| Bloodraine Fanfic Fanatic Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 1329 | dark.: Apparently not. Apparently, 'love is love'. So that seems wholly, utterly and completely contradictory to call one type of love (i.e. homosexual love) as purely 'love', and therefore acceptable, whilst another form of love is a mental disorder. Furthermore I do not believe that obsessive love is a mental disorder. Unless you can find me a psychologist or mental health professional who says it is, then I won't believe it. That might seem stubborn of me, but I genuinely see no proof of that. I guess it just shows that people who say 'love is love' don't really mean that. |
| ChemicallyImbalanced Wordsmith Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 10204 | Bloodraine: But Obsessive love is a disorder. ![]() The wikipedia page on it is here, but if you type in obsessive love disorder on google, you'll get loads of websites. |
| Marie Kaulitz. Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 379 | I honestly do not care which sexuality someone is. In my opinion, if they're brave enough to go out in the open about their relationship and not care what other people think, then more power to them. Kudos. I really don't understand why people make such a big deal out of it. Just because someone sees two girls together or two boys together does not give them a right to belittle them for it. It's a matter of one's preference, not someone else's. And I'm proud to say that I know a boy who is gay, but is also the nicest and funniest person to be around. I don't see many people ridiculing him for it, but I know some do which is just terrible. He has a real sense of humor, a real heart and he gossips about boys with me. ![]() If that isn't an amazing person, then I don't know what is. |
| Bloodraine Fanfic Fanatic Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 1329 | ChemicallyImbalanced: Interesting that you should quote wikipedia on that. Because the first sentence on that page reads: Obsessive love is a form of love where one person is emotionally obsessed with another. The key words being 'obsessive love is a form of love'. Now, I might be mistaken, but I thought that was what I was saying. Whether it is in fact a disorder I'm still inclined to doubt, although it is secondary to my main argument that when people say 'love is love', they don't really mean it. It seems that they accept it up to a point, until the love becomes morally grey. Then it is denounced as a disorder and not love at all. |
