Age: 18 Gender: Female Posts: 9334 | March 4th, 2008 at 06:10pm Thoughts? Opinions? Is America still not yet ready for a black man to lead the country? Or does it not matter at all? Do you think his age is a factor in voting? Do you think that he should even be a candiate at all? Does his experience qualify for him to lead a country such as America?

Honestly, I'm not American, so my opinion may not count. But my thoughts?
Yes.
He will be the next great thing for America.
I don't know much about him, because, again, I'm not American.
But from what I've seen/heard, I believe America is ready for change, and when they do, things will improve. The most powerful man in the world should most definitley be someone like Obama.

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 3016 | March 4th, 2008 at 06:42pm It's not the fact that he's black that's the issue here. The fact that he's so damn charismatic scares me. I can see it in him, he'll be the next Sarkozy, the next Putin, the next jolly-smiley president who has to smile and act cool to he'll win votes.
And the fact that all rockstars and celebs back him of as if he's some kind of Messiah sickens me even more. Politics used to be about something more than just songs, fads and jokes and politicians used to be capable of getting votes without having to post funny videos on youtube.
I'm not putting it all on him though, politics have turned into a circus where the cool, not the inteligent are listened.

He has a gigantic personality and he's very good at getting people to rally together and be passionate about something, but that's not exactly a great leadership quality. It doesn't mean he'd get the things done that need to be done. But if he gets the Dem nod I will, of course, be voting for him. |

I'm not really up to speed with the politics now, however. From what I have seen, I think Obama could good things and I think the American Government would do good with him.
In regards to America being ready for a black president, my dad and I were talking about it. Democrats really have the choice between a woman or a black man as their president.
My dad was saying that he believes Obama will win the nomination because America is still not ready for a woman president, as sad as that is, and would prefer a black man over a woman.
I think I agree. I also think that it shouldn't matter whether you're white, black, purple, man or woman but I guess it still does.

Age: 18 Gender: Female Posts: 9334 | March 5th, 2008 at 01:16am Oh, it's [race] definitely an issue still. And I believe that he will win over Hilary because black men got voting rights among other things before women so this probably won't be much different. A man is still a man therefore most of them are willing to vote for each other rather than a woman.
Also, everyone I know believes that he's going to get assassinated. I even heard a girl saying, "I'd vote for him. But he's gonna get assassinated and I like him so I don't want him to die." |

But I worry whether [some] Americans can move past our superficial values of skin color and see him as his values and politics, not race. However, he is young and he is slightly newer.
But my next door neighbors were lawyers in Chicago with him and they say he was absolutely brilliant and they think he could be great for the US...
And...funny YouTube videos?
Um...where? |

I've heard that too.
I think it is a terrible way to think.
Though, on the otherhand, when I hear that I get paranoid that it could happen.
It could happen to any president, though.

You know, for someone who's so "anti-racist" going on about how blacks had it harder, he's pretty racist himself - that's what annoys me about a lot of people who pull out the racism card, they're just as bad as the white man saying it about the black man, or asian, or hispanic, other race. If you want racism to stop, everyone has to stop it. Going on and on about how she's white. Who the hell cares if she's white? Who cares if Barack is black?
What gets me, is this man has probably never met or spoken to Hillary in his life. He, like almost everyone else, do not know what she went through in her life. He shouldn't assume that just because she's white she's never had problems.
I haven't seen either person's campaign, but if Obama has the same views as this guy, I definitely wouldn't be voting for him. Not that I can, I'm Canadian. I doubt he's like him but wow. Just, wow. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 52 | March 17th, 2008 at 07:42pm I'm not big on politics, but color and age have nothing to do with whether or not he's capable to be president. Same goes for Hilary if people think because she's a woman she shouldn't be allowed. What matters, is their ideas, and how they handle issues. They shouldn't be discriminated on because of their sex, race, age, or any other superficial thing.
I'm not really following the debates (bad Lia!) so I can't really say if he'd be good. |

I'm not really following the debates (bad Lia!) so I can't really say if he'd be good. Everyone knows (or most people understand) that race, sex, religion etc should't be determinants of a candiated capabilities but, unfortunately, they are. People keep saying, "It doesn't matter that he's black." But guess what? I guarantee 100% that there are some people vothing for or against him simply because of his race. |
