But Clinton and Obama had threads, and McCain has now officially secured the Republican nomination.
Do you believe that John McCain would make a good President?
Do you believe he could win against Clinton or Obama?

Honestly, I'd rather him win than Clinton or Obama, but I seriously doubt that happens.
Meh, as long as it isn't Clinton I'll be happy.
If Clinton wins I swear I'm leaving the country.

Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 1493 | March 5th, 2008 at 03:25am It is possible he can win..and I hate to say this, but in my opinion the only way he would win is if they found something out about the democratic candidate (who got the nomination) or state some statics or something that makes the public turn away from the democratic candidate
--most of the public is too caught up with either Obama or Clinton winning to not vote for them...am I making any sense? |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 2623 | March 5th, 2008 at 03:29am Well, a lot of Republicans are pretty unhappy with the Bush Administration.
Obama is drawing more votes than Clinton is from Independents and Republicans.
But a lot of core conversative Republicans would rather vote for McCain than a Democratic candidate, and it's not just popular vote that counts, it's the electoral college vote. So if McCain wins in large states like Texas, California, Pennsylvania, etc., he could become President. |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 2623 | March 5th, 2008 at 03:37am Ah, I see now. I think it's pretty ridiculous to say you're going to leave a country just because someone you don't like became President. And Clinton and Obama are essentially the same on the issues, so I really don't see the sense behind that statement.
But I am very much reminded of this comic. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 1267 | April 13th, 2008 at 12:43pm I literally hate Clinton and Obama. Not going into details except this: they want to take out the troops in Iraq. Talk about not being sensitive to the first civilization. McCain, on the other hand, doesn't (or at least hasn't said anything about it, anyways.) plan on taking them out.
Clinton's getting votes because she's female, and her husband is the ex-president (I still think that they're trying to dictate the United States....).
Obama's getting votes because he's African-American. Sorry, I'm not trying to be racist, but I do believe that's true.
I'm not really into politics, but if I had to pick who'd be president, I'd definitely pick McCain. And, no, I'm not only picking him because he doesn't want to take the troops out of Iraq!!! |

What exactly do you mean, not being sensitive to the first civilization? I don't really understand what you're referring to. If you're referring to Babylon, as the first civilization, I don't really see how it's relevant. But either way I don't think that by staying in Iraq, enabling terrorists, creating even more violence, and destroying their already almost nonexistent infrastructure and government, we are being at all "considerate" to their culture.
I don't think that either Clinton or Obama are getting votes because of their race/gender. They are getting votes because they have both proven to be strong Democratic candidates, and obviously people are going to be voting for them. If they are so bad because they are planning to pull out troops, why is Obama getting a portion of his votes from Republicans? I think it's ridiculous to pull the race/gender card at this point in the race, when they have both proven to have widespread support due to their policies. And, a lot of recent polls have shown that people are unhappy with the role Bill Clinton has taken in Hillary's campaign, and he has actually hurt her voting base.
For clarification, McCain has said that he is willing to keep us in Iraq for another 100 years if necessary. While this is not literal, he certainly has no plans to pull out troops.
And, you say that you don't support McCain purely for his stance on the Iraq War, yet you give no other reasons. May I ask what those other reasons are? |

I do not want another republican to extend this war any longer than it already is.
I honestly want Obama to win, and I have a strong feeling that the Democratic party is going to win this race, be it Obama or Clinton.

Bush fucking up won't make Republicans turn into democrats, it will just make them hate Bush. There is a big generation of kids who will be voting for the first time this election though, and I think thats where the democrats have a chance. Hillary and Obama appeal to young voters way more than McCain does. |

It doesn't really matter who gets the Democratic vote, Clinton is a woman and Obama is african american. There are too many stupid people in this country who wouldn't vote for them because of that, sure they're getting votes now but once one goes against McCain, who on top of everything else is a POW which people love, he will probably win. |

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 18640 | April 23rd, 2008 at 02:45pm A lot of people who don't pay attention to politics will vote for the Republicans again because they don't want a change. Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama pose as unlikely candidates to a lot of the population, and a lot of people are just going to judge upon appearances and vote for McCain.
Like Kurtni said, the new generation of voters will make a difference, as the left-wing status of the Democrats is more likely to appeal to them as opposed to the right wing status of McCain. |
