Cliché Catastrophe Age: 19 Gender: Female Posts: 398	April 22nd, 2008 at 11:34am I've been playing since I was 6... well, maybe not 'playing' but I started taking up violin lessons when I was 6 so yeah XDXDXD I have not quit yet, I'm still going on with it... it's my 9th year so and I have NO plans of quitting either haha and I'm planning to teach too =)

It is tied with the cello as my favorite instrument, and my favorite piece of music at the moment was written for it. Praeludium and Allegro anyone? At our state fair, for Indiana University day, there was a booth for our music school set up, and they had a violin. I tried to lay, but it was scary. But I really admire people who have put up with the "dying cat" noises long enough to be good at it. I would never have the patience. Who are everyones favorite violinists? I don't know too much about very many of them, except that Joshua Bell is amazing. Are there any others you think I should check out?

And my Violin is really special to me because it belonged to my great-great-grnadfather! It's 167 years old! I sounds like one of those old instruments!! I can pawn some minuets and I even taught myself to play Cancer by My Chemical Romance! But I'm not one of those snobby players, I promise!! I just love mixin' with fellow Violinists!
Venomous Kiss Cliché Catastrophe Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 475	May 29th, 2008 at 03:31pm i play it, and i love it...it takes a lot of practice, and its hard to learn, but in the end its worth it, at least in my opinion im not one of those snobby players, and i never want to be one...most of my friends play guitar, drums, etc, the "usual" instruments, but meh, i dont mind standing out =D my violin is also special to me because it was made by one of my greatgrandfathers best friends, its 83 years old

I hate my music teacher though. He's such loser. One time i tried to play Build God Then We'll talk on it. ( didn't work at well) I also tried to pluck the begging of I write sins not tragedies, that didn't work out well either.I also tried to play the end of Nine in the afternoon. I didn't do so bad. I suck at playing my ear maybe thats why.

The main reason I gave up on it was because my teacher hated me and said I didn't practise well enough. In the end she told me that she'd move me down with the beginners and I just told her to forget it.

Like... it shows that violinists aren't just some dorky kids with acoustic instruments, that it can actually be used as an on stage band instrument I guess? Haha... well, uh, I've played violin seven years and counting I've gone through... four different school orchestras, since I've moved when I was in seventh grade, and I'm still going strong. My violin is actually... a piece of crap, but I try to make the best of it. My friend [who isn't mine anymore ] actually decided it would be cool to trash my room and take out my violin and uh... she stepped on the scroll and crack it in half. I was like WHATEHLBKNDLKSJDFLBGF FUCK. Because it was like, a 500 dollar violin, and I had it since I started playing... and I was so pissed beyond belief. garawrwar grawr. I actually moved from violin to bass a couple of months before school ended this year, and it is SO fucking hard to go back from playing a thick necked instrument to a small one. My hands will not allow it >_____<

I have my own violin and stuff, but I haven't been playing lately, so I'm probably bad. I had to quit my orchestra because I went to cyber school. I can't wait to go back to public school to play... if the orchestra is still there. I love my violin and orchestra.<3

My sister used to play violin but then got bored with it so we already have one, and I already have some knowledge of musical theory and string instruments, and I figure everything out by ear so, screw the fact that I can barely read sheet music. Right now I'm just about struggling through Come On Eileen. Does anyone have any useful tips for me? 'Cause I'm obviously a n00b and I'd really appreciate it.

I played when I was a kid and had to give up thanks to my evil BITCH of a teacher. But I despise the violin anyway. Probably because playing it used to give me these dizzy spells for some odd reason. Tips, uhm... did you get stickers to remember where the notes are? As in, where to put your fingers? Although if you're playing by ear... wow, is that not really hard?

As in, where to put your fingers? Although if you're playing by ear... wow, is that not really hard? No, I should do that, ty! I find that the hardest part. And nahhh, not really! I find it's a lot quicker than using sheet music, because uh...I'm a complete 'tard. I do it for guitar and piano. If I've listened to the song a couple of times I just figure out the starting note for the part I want to play, and the key, and do it from there.

My friend Lejend can play it rather well (at least in the pov of someone who only knows very basic things). I know the strings, how you hold the bow, using rosin on the bow, tightening the bow, tuning the violin, and a few positions on where to put my fingers. That's it. I tried to play Harry Potter, but it sort of sucked. I mean, I did it, but once in a while I would play that damn awful screechy noise..
