That's awesome, a neat Christmas gift. I've been playing for about 4 or 5 years now. Cool

I've been playing drums for about 3 years tops. I got mine since I was 13, and I have an awesome drum teacher, 3 years later and we're still going strong XD
I play drums really hard when I'm really pissed. XD

I play drums.
I go to drum lessons every Thursday, and I can pick up stuff pretty quickly, and be able to do it the next week, despite the fact that I don't practice much.
My drumkit doesn't have a ride cymbol, and I get slightly pissed every time I remember my boyfriend condemning it for that reason.

I've been playing since August, and all the guys in my section that do Intermediate 2 level drumming with me think I'm great at it.

I think I'm supposed to be getting lessons inside of school now that my Music teacher has seen my talent.

Weird

You could probably find a used one that would be pretty inexpensive.

In 5th grade we were able to pick insturment to play, and I chose drums.
The next year, more than half the kids quit and I was the only girl left. =/
I love the drums, but I only have a used snare drum. And it's a little too used because if I try and flip the lever to take the snares off, they get tangled and I can't put them back up...so I just don't take them off anymore.
I really want a decent drum kit, but my parents are kind of "ehh" about it even thought I offered to pay for it myself. My Papa especially, he thinks it's weird or something.

Have you tried readjusting the tension of the wires they're on? They might be too loose.

Well, I took it to the music store where I got it and they tried a few things, but it was just too beaten up, so they basically suggested to not take them off unless I wanted to go through the hassle of untangling them everytime I did. it was very cheap drum, so i can't expect too much from it.
So now any time I play something loud in my room the snares start vibrating, haha.
This is partly why I want a decent kit. =/
Thanks for the advice though.

Oh, that stinks. If the music shop couldn't fix it, then there is probably no hope. If you don't want the snares to vibrate, you can always try sticking a pillow underneath them. I did that when I jammed my snare switch thing until I got it fixed, it worked decently.

That's never happened to me. But that kind of sucks. I've been playing percussion for 4 years now. And my parents still refuse to let me get a Drum Set. It's frustrating really. They used to tell me Percussion/Drumming wasn't for girls. They tried for years and years to get me to quit. But I enjoyed it too much.

Now I'm one of the Co-Section Leaders. And the funny thing is, that everyone else that's on the same line as me, has some Drum Set. All I have at home is the beginner Bell Kit. Embaressing. But I still love my Practice Pad. Never failed me once.

They did get me a Keyboard 2 Christmas's ago. Now I play that a LOT. They regret buying that for me. Because I don't just play the classics they like. I'm into making my own techno when I get bored. Very Happy

So what's everyone's specialties on Percussion?

Not for girls? That's such a silly stereotype, the fact that there are so few female percussionists should make them feel proud that you're so talented at it.

I don't know that I have a specialty per say, but I've always been quite partial to the marimba Cool They sound so gorgeous.

I take drumming lessons.
It's about my third year this year.
I have a drum kit but I don't use it often... I really should, I don't practice enough.

Practice makes perfect, especially on drums. There is so much technique involved, if you don't practice it deteriorates. I can go a few weeks without playing guitar and nothing would happen, but if I don't play my drums for just one it takes a while to get back into the swing of things.

I've played drums for about 3 years now but just lately I can't be bothered to play. I keep blaming it on the fact my kit's electric and it's not the same, especially seeing as I keep getting random urges to beat the crap out of a hi-hat and just drive the bass drum, but I just don't want to practise anymore...

I keep missing my drum lessons too which isn't good. My drum teacher doesn't say anything about it and my parents don't really know but I feel like I'm losing touch with them...But I still love playing! I'm hoping Drummer Live will spark my interest again. Relying on it so badly this year, slightly worried it won't be as magical as it used to be seeing as nothing's really that new...
