Billie Joe Armstrong:
Wikipedia:
Punk rock is an anti-establishment rock music genre and movement that emerged in the mid-1970s. Preceded by a variety of protopunk music of the 1960s and early 1970s, punk rock developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where groups such as the Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash were recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement. By 1977, punk was spreading around the world.

Cool

I have an obsession with the 70's punk scene in England. [/random information]

Anyone else?
Gah. Me too.

I love the Ramones, but only a few of their songs. Blitzkrieg Bop, like most of you said. Seems to me it's their best song... and what their best known for. That's how I first heard about them, anyways.

But I wouldn't say they were the best band that represents punk rock. Nah, definitely not.

they created punk rock. Who could represent it better?
I agree on the fact that there might be better punk rock bands but the Ramones are the best band who can actually represent punk through music and lifestyle.

I found this band tonight......don't really sound like a punk and more like ska but their really fuckin' ace.
Sing about the punk scene in Hackney.

They really cheered me up 'cos I was becoming fed up with the music, but this made it worth it all again.
Can't recommend them enough.

This is, by far, my favourite genre.
The Bleach Boys
Komety
The Flatliners
Dead Kennedys
The Ramones
The Misfits

I could probably go on, for a very long time, but you'd probably get bored and I could fall asleep at the keyboard Mr. Green

O.o You think the Ramones created punk rock? Duuude, you need to learn the history. It's a little think called proto-punk.

Plus, in all the Ramones songs, I've never felt any punk message of the life style or to do anything. Sure...they may have had some "style" to their clothing and they had the fast beats to their music. But I never heard a message or a big fuck you to anything. How is that representing punk? It's not.
Pretty much all the '77 UK bands did that.
And the American band, The Avengers. xD

All in all, the Ramones didn't create punk music. (Neither did the Sex Pistols. Like I said, proto-punk did.)
They didn't really represent it. If anything, they represented Pop Punk.

"Who cares who started it?! It's music. I don't know who started it, and I don't give a shit. The one thing I know is that we did it harder, we did it faster, and we definitely did it with more love baby."

That last bit was probably false X]

I highly disagree that the US did it better (I know where that quote is from, and know it's talking about the States). And I'm an American.
Yes, I do think 1980's punk in the States was pretty good but not the original wave.

No matter what, and all I was saying, I'm still sticking with my opinion that I don't think the Ramones represent punk in any way, nor are the prefect image.
& that wildcat. said the Ramones started punk. Everyone that's really into punk should know that no '77 punk band started it. Or maybe that's just me since I'm obsessed with the history.

Love all of those.

But how come when people are listing out Anarcho punk bands why do they always leave out Conflict? ;[

I know alot of people might not like them but come on they were right after Crass.

I don't remember what I've listed (if I've even done that) but the only anarcho punk band I really listen to (that I know of - I don't pay attention to sub-genres) is Crass. I don't like Conflict.

A lot of Green Day fans on here, schweet.
I love punk rock, obviously. The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and The Clash all have a place in my twisted little heart.
90s punk/alternative is pretty awesome, too.
