Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 829 | July 14th, 2008 at 06:19pm The only time I ever sang in public was at my Comfirmation when I was 12 with another girl who sang beautifully. I didn't think I did so well, but every one else thought I did. I almost sang at a school concert but just didn't go to the next few try outs because I was scared of sucked if I made it. |

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 177 | July 18th, 2008 at 10:29pm I love to sing because I love to write with so much emotion and I believe that I'm the only one who can sing it how I know it should be sung. I'm not that great but I'm not bad I'm not going to end up fishing for compliments on my voice I'll be honest I'm not that bad. I'm trying so hard to start a band and I've deemed myself the singer just because I need this to work. I need to scream and sing all these emotions out of myself, I have something to say and I don't want someone else to say it. My sister is a phenomenal singer and I've got her to agree to help me learn how to improve my vocals. I'm so excited I want to share my music with everyone. As of right now music is all I'm concerned about. If I make it that's great if not I'll be happy just making music and being able to sing my words. |

I completely and totally agree. I'm thinking of declaring my musical instrument voice instead of piano if I go to Berklee. I'm all over the place, but am more comfortable with the soprano range. Apparantly I am extremely good because random people would hear me singing in the halls or whatever, stop me, and tell me how amazing I am and that they want me to sing in their church, band, choir or even roles in musicals. I hear all these compliments, but am still a bit shy about unleashing the full volume of my voice/ unsure of my ability. Anywho, I'm looking to start a band with me as vocals/piano, but idk yet. |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 255 | August 2nd, 2008 at 12:25am I sing Alto I, and I was in choir during my junior high years, but as soon as I hit high school I filled up my schedule, so I couldn't take it.
I prefer to sing pieces from musicals like Rent, Hairspray, and Jesus Christ Superstar (my band director's first LP. Crazy, huh?).
I have a dream of being on broadway, but I'm nowhere near good enough to do it.
I did audition for Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz for our musical this year, but I ended up in the chorus. |

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 54 | August 27th, 2008 at 04:54am I love to sing and I will sing anything and everything.
Currently I am in a mixed choir at school, our school's show choir, and a church choir.
I HATE singing by myself at places where other people sing (such as voice recitals, or solos in concerts.) I can break into song in the middle of the hallway but around other singers I get shy. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 34 | August 28th, 2008 at 02:11am I've been singing since before I could actually speak well. ^_^
Mom says I used to make up songs to sing in front of people when we went out, and I would sing to random old men in the grocery store.
I still sing, but I'm a lot better, and a lot more confident. For a long time, I would NOT sing in front of anyone because of one horrific experience and a lot of comments from my dad and brother.
I like to sing falsetto, or an octave above the other people singing for some reason, and my range is pretty good, I'd like to think.
I'm definitely nowhere near good enough to make a living of it, but it's as natural as breathing for me. =]
Not a voice lesson in my life, and I'm already better than my entire family (extended and otherwise...many of which took singing lessons for a long time). |

Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 161 | September 2nd, 2008 at 10:32pm I sing, but I haven't really been trained for anything particular. I just sing along to the songs I listen to, and I sing for my band, so I guess my style is rock? But people tell me I have a really jazzy voice.
I can go pretty high. Like...the highest I can go is the part in "Back Of Your Mouth" by the Used when he goes "can't kill, can't kill" in whisper mode and then a really high falsetto-ish thing. And I can go low too, but not really far down.
People say I'm an "awesome" singer, but I'm not sure. I think I'm kind of good, but not amazing. so, I'm cool with that. |

i've never taken lessons. i've never wanted to. i feel like it's cheating if you take lessons, but that's just me.
my friends have told me i have a good voice, and i think my voice is okay, and i've always wanted to sing for a band.
i like singing rock music.
i think my voice kind of has that rock edge to it and it just...works. i don't know.
i was only in choir for two years, and i quit because she told me to 'stop singing like a rock star'.
i didn't get to sing how i wanted to. |

I love to sing, but I can't build up the confidence to sing to anyone other than my mum
Anyone got any advice for me?? I'd really like to join a choir or a group or something, but my confidence deserts me |

I'm just kidding. That never works.
Um, what I do is just focus on one spot, don't focus on a person. Just stare there the whole period of time while you're singing. Don't ever close your eyes (unless, of course, you're blinking) because if you ever start to do big shows, it is incredibly unprofessional. And I also think if you just sing a lot, if you keep singing in front of people other than your mom, you'll automatically get the confidence. Start with one other person; like your mom and your best friend. And then gradually sing to your other close friends or family members. The first time is always the hardest. Once you get past that and realize nobody's gonna kill you, even if you do badly, everything will be fine. |

I also sing sorta depressing songs, like Demi Lovato's old old songs, eg, Trash, Shadow, Stronger.
And 1000 miles. Man, I hate that song now. |
