Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 393 | March 12th, 2008 at 01:33am Hey! I've been playing flute for seven years, in concert band, symphonic band, my church's band, and marching band, which I just started this year. I don't play piccolo, although I would like to. I tried my friend's piccolo before, it was hard to play.
I've had two flutes since I started. The first was a Bestler, a cheap student flute with closed holes. In sixth grade, I got a Gemeinhardt, which I still play now. It's really nice, open holes, and a solid silver headjoint.
What about you? Play flute and/or piccolo, or interested in either instrument? |

I have a Yamaha closed hole flute.
Pretty shitty, but not as shitty as me... >_> I mean it when I say I'm terrible at playing.
It's fun though, so I think I'm going to continue.

sometimes, other players cringe because our notes are so high. we have this one toccata that we're playing with some of the highest notes ever, and i'm really having trouble getting them out, and it sounds like SQEEEEEEEKKKKK when they finally come out right. |

Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 496 | March 21st, 2008 at 01:10am toccata is hard on clarinet too, especially when you're sighting it and the people around you have no clue how to play. |

I've gotten first chair out of roughly 8-9 people a few years in a row. I wouldn't give it up for anything. ^_^ |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 57 | March 24th, 2008 at 02:01am I pay the flute, and have been for about 4 years. I'm pretty good at it, but in class I normally only play for tests. The teacher never even notices! I hate the high notes.....they hurt my ears. |

Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 1 | April 6th, 2008 at 06:48am wooden recorders rock, hard. haha. no joke i have like three.
but yeah, i play the flute(yamaha open holed B foot, offset G), eight years and counting. I love it, well, playing in band, not alone. That's not so fun. haha.
I'm third chair, well second cause the one girl only plays piccolo, unfortunately. She's absolutely terrible, but I hate the piccolo any way so no one can really make it better but she just fuels my hatred. haha. |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 547 | April 11th, 2008 at 05:07pm I'm a freshman this year and I have been playing the flute since the fourth grade. I love it. I perform with the concert band and marching band on the flute, and I will start playing at churches from time to time as well. The flute I have is just a student's flute, but hopefully by my senior year I'll own an opened holed - better sound quality.
I'm told all of the time how amazing I am at it, and that I should be first chair compared to the junior that is right now. The teacher I take lessons from says it all of the time, and so does the band director. I'm going to begin challenging soon, but at the same time, I know how good I am and I don't exactly want to flaunt it. >_> |

Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 1584 | April 15th, 2008 at 01:22am I've been playing a Armstrong closed hole flute since Sixth, and, in quite honestly, it's pretty banged up. Either way, I'm actually good. I tryed out for Wind Ensemble at the Opening High School for my Freshman year, and I got it. (Granted, no seniors, but, still.)
Although, I am proficient. (I can make noise!) out of a Piccolo, Saxophone, and Clarinet. So, yeah, multi-intrumental! Whee!
Haha
