 Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 86 | June 8th, 2008 at 02:15pm I adore snakes.
I had a corn snake once. Because supposedly they're supposed to be great beginner snakes. I was ten.
It was called Kelloggs =]
Of course, it wouldn't eat. And died within six months. Which sucked.
But last year I got Royal Python.
Called Regina. She's absolutely gorgeous.
Ironically, they're supposed to be bad beginner pets because they're inconsistent with feeding. But she isn't. She just eats whenever there's a mouse available.
I love royal pythons. Once Regina gets too big for her tank I'm going to get another one. They're the most adorable, cutest, nicest wee snakes.

And I don't dig that feeding them mice thing... I'd probably cry XD
I refuse to feed mine live mice. my mom wanted to once, before I took over caring for them, and I was like "No I don't wanna see that!" Besides, some pet stores that sell mice don't sell them as feeders. Apparently some may ask I guess, it kinda happened to my mom and I.
I feed mine frozen mice, and of course one of mine is all emo and won't eat the same size as the other, so I have to buy 3 different sizes (One for each snake) >.< Which reminds me. I have to feed my snakes like...today or tomorrow or something... Feeding your snake live mice provides them with stimulation and exercise.... most vets recommend that you do feed them live prey or they can become lazy and dull.
I tried giving my snake frozen mice years ago when we first got him, but he would never even touch them. Thats the one draw back to having a snake, I can't stand feeding it.
 soimakemydaddoit.
I've always heard, read, everywhere that it's an awful idea to feed snakes live prey.
The mice fight back. They injure your snake.
And I've heard some horror stories about the prey, if not eaten, eating the animal.
It gets exercise/stimulation from handling. |

The only time it will injure the snake is if
A - You're over feeding it and it doesn't eat the mouse/rat, giving it time to bite the snake
B- The rat/mouse is too large for it to eat.
If you know what you're doing and avoid those two things, your snake will be must more stimulated with live prey. Most pet stores recommend buying prekilled prey, but if you go to a vet specializing in herpetology, they'll explain to you how to feed your snake live prey correctly. Some snakes won't even eat frozen prey. |

I think its cool
At least when snakes shed it (usually) comes off in one piece and isn't very messy. Turtles don't shed like that and it makes their water cloudy if you don't have a good filter. |

Well, true. But it's all... shriveled and coiled, and ugh.
I mean, I'd gladly clean up snake poop than look at shed snake skin. Despite the smell.
I don't have a turtle...
but I do have a tortoise. Oh my god, most adorable wee thing in the world.
It's so tiny and it's wee head.... Awk =]

Found something on the internet that made me laugh about this...
Mice and other rodents are fast, smart and have lethal teeth. Snakes, on the other hand, are slow, stupid and can only kill by constriction
Haha. My snake is an idiot though... it frequently tries to eat it's own reflection... |

 Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 3737 | July 7th, 2008 at 05:05pm I have a question:
My baby corn snake won't eat.
It's supposed to eat at least one baby mouse a week, and it hasn't.
It just doesn't seem interested, and the day before we got it at the store,
it ate, so I know it's able to and everything...but is there anything else I can
do to get it to eat? |

He was as large as double the diameter of my neck, and I must say, I really would like to own one.
I think that is illegal though. |

But turtles can be more fun than snakes at times. Both animals are very fun though. Fun in their own way, not like a cat, but... Snake and turtle fun! |

Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 460 | July 11th, 2008 at 04:49am I love snakes. I think they're really cool, and nice pets. I've never really been scared of them. We have one now, a ball python, named Cuddles. It's my little brother's snake. When my best friend comes over, we usually take him out and hold him or let him slither all over the place. She wants to get one herself, but her mom is terrified of them. Terrified.
Before and after I was born, my dad had a boa, I believe. He had him for a good many years, but then once, the rat they were feeding to him bit him in the face, and he died of some disease or something. |

Age: 27 Gender: Male Posts: 5197 | July 31st, 2008 at 10:39am I used to live with a snake when I was like 4/5. In that range.
It was a python.
I liked watching it eat.
And, whenever the guy my mom had been dating cleaned the cage, I'd just watch the snake. Twas cool. |
