So my dog's life was saved because of animal testing.
It's necessary, in most cases. Not for cosmetics, but medication.
Now, if my dog got sick again, I wouldn't hesitate to have surgery performed on her. It doesn't matter to me if it was animal tested or not. If it wasn't, I don't think I would be too sure about it because who knows what could happen?
If I get sick, I take medication. Everything has to be tested on something, or else it could be dangerous.
p.s.- If she wouldn't have had surgery, she would have died at four years old. You can not tell me that is long enough for a dog to live. |

And by the way I never said I was against animal testing. I'm not. But if they're going to test animals, why not test some humans? |

You asked him why humans were worth more, but you said you didn't like his reasoning, I asked what yours was. I asked him why he thought humans were worth more. I was asking for him to justify his opinion, and I didn't think he had a great reason. Hence the "I don't like your reasoning"
I don't have "reasoning" for thinking that humans are worth more, because I don't think that. |

But you benefit from animal testing every day in your life... so if they're equal to us why is that ok? |

Article One
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Humans do not have rights just because they are alive, or just because they are animals. As humans we are opposed to torture and in that sense putting animals through pain is wrong, but animals and humans do not have equal rights.
Animals can't even distinguish between their own interests and what is right, they cannot comprehend the concept of rights.

And all people can? Animals don't have to be able to comprehend rights, because we give them their rights, they don't define them. Our rights just come first. |

I don't think we should be doing to animals anything that we would call unethical if done to - say - a human infant.

Humans have the ability to say what is right or wrong, it's called morality and most sane people have it. That however does not mean that they'll always do the right thing.
Rights are by definition the legal entitlement to do or refrain from doing something, they also imply obligations. We cannot demand animals to follow laws because they cannot comprehend them, the same way we cannot grand them human rights.

[/font] You mean grant them?
And we don't give them human rights, we give them animal rights. If you have a pet, they have the right to food. You have to take them to the vet. Certain species are protected under law and you can't hunt them. They're entitled to those rights.
sueno?:they also imply obligations.
Rights don't imply obligations, that's responsibilities or duites, they're different.
I think we're going off topic in here, we should probably make a seperate thread to discuss this. |
