About every single vaccine you get is or was tested on animals. There really isn't any avoiding it. I have used many medicines that were tested on animals along with almost everyone in the world. I hate how they do it, but I would have died numerous times if it wasn't for animal testing. I don't promote it or like it, but I appreciate it in a way.

For

Yes, testing on them can be wrong, in some instances, but all in all its for a greater good. What would you do if your dad or your mom was dying of cancer, but YOU (assuming that your the only one left in their life) refused to let them have the cure(when the get one that is) because it was tested on animals. Would you honestly let your mom/dad die because of your ideals? Don't you find that a little selfish?

Testing on animals or testing on humans? Pick <3
You cannot just sit there and type "oh no, no, no, no! save the furry critters" we as a society have to test on something.
And just a "little" list of what animal testing has brought to society. kudos to school-related research.

Vaccines: Chicken Pox, Cholera, Diphtheria, Flu, Influenza B, Hepatitis A and B, Measles, Mumps, Polio, Small pox, Whooping Cough, Yellow Fever.
Medication: Insulin, Penicillin, Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Pain-killers.
Devices: Pacemakers, Artificial hearts, knees, hips etc.

And pretty much every transplant surgery was first tested on animals.

"Ethical" or not, it's damn effective.

The whole 'ethics' thing annoys me.
Especially with PETA
People for the ETHICAL treatment of Animals.
it differs from person to person.
I find it completely ethical to test medicines and procedures on animals.

I disagree with animal testing, and I try to avoid using products that do test, but it's basically unavoidable.
I mean, I've stopped eating mars producs, because they do, and I don't even use medicine, and I avoid vaccinations, but you just can't get away from it, and it's obvious it's not going to stop anytime soon.

I have actually read all nine pages, and stopped myself from yelling at the screen....barely. =P

So, I'm for animal testing. People here have raised good points that I agree with.
If killing some dogs, cats, whathaveyou, would save even one person with AIDS?
I would kill them.
That sounds harsh, but I value human life above animal life.
Double that if it was for a cure!
Not many people can honestly say that they would let some animals live, when killing them would give you a cure for AIDS. If you are one of those few, then I know without a doubt that you have never seen the devastation of AIDs first hand.
I haven't so I can't say much. I understand that.
Some people go about making claims/statements without any knowledge about that subject.
Also; I can not honestly believe that anyone, given a chance, would rather kill a human than a dog.
Imagine this: there is a young boy, say 11, in front of you. Beside him is a German Shepard. You have gun, and for unknown reasons (we're authors people, use your imagination!), are forced to make a choice.
Kill the little boy, who has his whole future ahead of him? Or kill the dog.
Anyone who says that they would rather kill the boy is not telling the truth.
I seriously doubt that you could kill the little boy in cold blood.
Not many people can.

But, I digress.

So, on testing, for cosmetics I'm not really for it. For science/medical? I'm completely for it. Without a doubt.

I really don't understand the cosmetic kind of animal testing. Can't they just put the mascara on a willing human?

Yea, i mean i know PLENTY of people who would LOVE to do something like that. Its pretty unnecessary.

^^^I know a lot of girls at my school who would be like,"Oh my God! Free make-up!" and run over to the nearest company willing to hire them for that.. I would even do that. It would be like a free make-over every day. Who wouldn't love to do that for money? Sure an occasional eye infection from a new type of eye liner but hey that is only temporary.

Examples of Cosmetic Animal Testing

A lot of these tests are unnecessary. Who would put mascara on a gaping wound, or purposely eat it?(OK toddlers, but that isn't the point.) Almost all of these tests don't even show the affect on humans, because the effects on humans are different than an animals.

I'm for animal testing. Would it be 'ethical' (I hate using this word because it has kind of lost its meaning because it's thrown around so much) to test medication on humans before you know it (or the dose is) safe? No

A lot of people focus on the makeup issue. I don't think it is necessary to test makeup on animals. I'm against testing for this reason unless there is a really good reason for it (but I can't think of one). This is such a small fraction of animal testing yet it gets so much of the attention and becomes the reason why people are against ALL animal testing.

For the sake of scientific advancements, immunization, treatments, and cures, it is absolutely necessary. If there was a more effective way, it would be done. Scientists are not crazy individuals whose joy comes from harming living creatures. I've worked in a lab and this is absolutely not the case; where I was, they were working on treatments for muscular dystrophy, a debilitating disease, and have to use animal models to understand aspects of the malady. The researchers do not enjoy this part of the work (sacrificing the animal).

While I love animals as much as the next person (I don't even eat meat), there's no getting around this. Without animal models, there is no way to predict how (for example) a medication will work in the body without testing it. You can't guess or assume things like that. We have and continue to learn so much from animals.

^ Your argument is very good. Animal testing for makeup is very unnecessary especially considering makeup is also fairly unnecessary.

The animal testing issue really causes a lot of problems. I really hate the harming of animals and I would be completely against animal testing if I didn't see the importance of it. I'm really into science and know the stuff behind the testing, there are too many similarities between humans and animals to not sacrifice them for us. Although I really hate this and wish it didn't happen. There is NO way in the near future that animal testing will be stopped, it's simply too important, especially for disease immunology and cancer research.

But hopefully scientists will soon be able to replace animals with technology, they are already very close. Animal testing is only ONE of the phases medicine and makeup go through. One of the phases is testing on humans, it does happen and there are negative effects on those humans.

But do you all think that humans haven't died before from this kind of thing? What about the thousands that died before doctors realised they were carrying germs from body to body in hospitals? Many died, mostly mothers and their babies because doctors didn't realise they had to sterilise everything before moving from one patient to another. And now they do know it, where do the cleaning products come from? Animal testing.

It is inevitable and mostly likely going to be around for a very very long time.

You have no idea how much emotional pain it causes me to say I'm for animal testing, but I am. I love animals, all of them and I really hate myself for seeing the logic in animal testing, I really wish I could just hate it without agreeing with it, but I understand the science behind it too well.

One day animal testing will be replaced, it just wont be soon enough.

That is exactly how i feel, i hate the fact that i'm for it. I love animals but i understand the importance, and the cure for cancer is more important to me than mice, but i totally get what your saying Very Happy
