Can bands truly save lives? A question I think that's on a lot of people's minds lately. I want to get your guys' opinions on the matter.

Personally, I don't think they can actually save lives because they don't take the razor/drugs/alcohol away from you. Or any other addiction that you may have, do they? They help you feel better but it's not actually saving lives in my opinion. You do that yourselves.

I don't think they save lives, physically.
I think that music just inspires us to help us help ourselves, if that makes any sense, even if just a little bit.
So..maybe just a tad in the emotional area.

I used to say MCR saved my life and one person asked me a simple question; How?

Jeez, until now, I can't answer that. I now realized that I was just following the trend.

Yeah, you save yourself. I agree.

True, they cannot take away your addictions or your razors but they can help keeep you from it.
When you get the urge you think of them, and you want to go on living.
I know that a band had saved my life.
And that bands have saved my best friend also.
It's different for everyone.

I don't think that they can save your life necessarily, but I know that for some people they really help in times of need. I know that when I was depressed a bit ago, My Chemical Romance did help me. They were something to turn to when my whole life was being flung around, they were a constant that I loved that wouldn't ever desert me. I wasn't in danger of death or anything of the sort, but they did help me along the way. And I do know of other people who bands have helped, of course. There are a lot of people like that on this site, even.

Bands can't save lives, I don't think, but they're a hand to help you get back up. At least, that's my take on it.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense :/

Music can influence you to live your life.

If your desprate enough, anything can save you.

I credit MCR for saving my life.

They might not have personaly taken the razorblade out of my hand in my darkest times, but when your hopeless anough and about to attempt suicide agian, if you find something anything that in a sense saves you, then you feel this special connection and you regain alot of the optimism you lost.

Its almost impossible to describe if you haven't been there.

Does a band save yourself, in sense yes from your self. and they do it by saying how they feel.

You might think this post is full of shit, but I honestly do feel that a band can save your life. It saved mine, and I felt that way before I even saw the Life On The Murder Scene dvd or went on some website that proclaimed salvation from MCR. I felt that the first time I heard Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge

Exactly they may give you strength when your upset but ultimately it's up to yourself. I've been there myself and it's not hard for me to talk about. I have several bands that have helped me put things down. (Linkin Park, A7X, Papa Roach, Good Charlotte, HIM, Atreyu)

Bands do change ultimately and even when you like them one day, you can despise them the next. Take MCR for example, I loved them until TBP came out. It just seemed too commercialized after that for me. Waiting for the hate mail.

My opinions:

No they can't physically save you. Like said, They aren't gonna come take the gun out of your hand, etc. Only you can do that.

But yes, I think they can have an influence on it. I've had my moments where I wanted to die, but I would listen to some of my favorite bands, and their lyrics, and mostly, it would calm me down, then I would go to bed and usually feel better the next day.

In a way, I think they can.

My Chemical Romance, for example. The reason my best friend became my friend friend was because of them. She wore their shirt to school one day, we started hanging out more often. My other best friend, I met her in line at a My Chemical Romance show. If it weren't for My Chem, I wouldn't have my best friends, and if it weren't for my best friends then, yeah, I'd probably be dead or close to it.

Even if they didn't SAVE my life, they most certainly changed it for the better.

Obviously, bands cannot physically save your life.
However, I do believe that in some rare cases, some music can actually calm a person down and prevent them (if only temporarily) from doing something stupid.
So I guess that would be classified as having a band 'save your life' or whatever. But like I said before, those cases are really rare. The majority of people that claim that -insert band's name here- saved their life are total B.S, though. :/

I think if you look pass the music and look more into the band, then yes they can save lives. I think being able to relate to a band and knowing you're not alone is what saves lives

I wrote a huge journal entry on this once and got totally flamed.
No, I do not believe bands save lives.
I believe that they give you the strength to save yourself.
I don't like that people give up their own strength to a band so readily.
I do not mean to offend.

I don't think so.
Like the whole 'mcr saved my life' thing...
I will believe that MCR has saved your life when Gerard Way pulls you from a burning building.

Yes, I believe so.
Hard to explain and understand.
Maybe they weren't here, but they were.
Looking at Gerard's eyes and thinking of his words stopped me.

I think so too. It can be a lyric that can make you just feel so much better.

I agree it is hard to explain. :Grr

They might give you a reason to live, a reason to dream, a reason to get through stuff.

I just don't really know if they have so much power so as to physically save your life. Idk.
