'Emo' is short for 'Emotive' from 'Emotive Records'. I've read up on the history of the "emo" trend, and keep finding this fact repeated enough, so I find it to be true. |

Right. How many people would proudly say to some girls who are reknowned for 'emo bashings' that they are in fact emo?
And, when I am called emo out in the streets, and I ask them what it really means, it's hilarious to see how many people actually don't know. I then go into some huge history lesson about the true origins of the term 'emo.'
And yes, it was Emotive Records, so I've heard? |

Posts: 10184 | May 19th, 2008 at 09:53am It's also a very overused term. I've heard girls at my schoolon their phones saying that they will be "emo" If they don't get what they want. But If someone calls me emo I always ask them what it means.
It's actually quite funny the number of people that use that term and have not a clue what it truly means. |

It originated from Emotive Records, I believe, yes... All these kids walking around with giant fringes and skin-tight jeans and actually SAYING they're emo need to learn the true meaning of the word. Emo died in the 80s, did it not? |

Now, really, it's just about a pair of tight jeans, eyeliner and the color black.
It used to be just a music genre, now it's a group of people that like the things I mentioned above. |

Emo seems to have more of a unspoken meaning. To me it's a scene that you can visually reconise, and sliently describe, but not label, unless you want to get into arguments. |

Really well said. I just wished that this Emo trend is over soon.. I am wondering what the fake scene kids will wear them and which trend they will follow afterwards. Maybe back to the girlie-girl fashion? |

Honestly, all it does is create problems.
Though I do find it amusing when people have the nerve to call me emo. I remember once, over the summer, my 10-year-old neighbor IMed me and called me a stupid emo.
So I asked him, "What is emo then?"
And he went on blabbering about how it meant that I was quiet, depressive, wore all black and cut myself frequently. I couldn't help but burst out laughing, none of those statements applied to me. I still laugh whenever I see him on the streets and he calls out, "Hey emo!"
But as Teen Distortion., I wish it didn't exsist. It would solve a lot of problems if it people just stopped using the term and it just faded into oblivion. |
