Also before he came into power he tried to overthrow the gov't by force and was temporarily banned from the party.
There are tons of tons of things but I mean I can't think of all of them off the bat. |

Have you touched on his childhood? His upbringing? Life in Vienna before the GDP and Nazi Party? How he formed his anti-semitic views?

I understand about the putsch, but I don't think he was banned from the party. He was arrested, though. |

Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 198 | July 2nd, 2008 at 08:05am In answer to the being banned from the party, he wasn't banned, he was put in Jail and that was when he wrote his book Mein Kampf.
And he is most famous for his rally's in that beer hall, for the workers party thing, origionally it was only about 30 men after he got out of jail on good behaviour i believe.
1933 was when he took over the reichstag and banned all over government parties and took polital prisoners |

he should have been sent down for life
because he was put in Landsberg for committing treason [the Beerhall Putsch]
but as you said he was well behaved
thats not the only reason he got let out though
alot of the judges agreed with him because he did a big speech at his trial. |

Age: 21 Gender: Female Posts: 1294 | July 5th, 2008 at 06:42pm Today I heard something quite "funny". In Berlin a "Madam Tussaud's" was opened and they even had Hitler there. But today a man stormed in and ripped off his head.
Many people are like "OMG how can they show Hitler? Hitler?!" But I think 1) they should have put him behind some glass, 2) Hitler is a part of Germany's history (so Berlin's history as well) and I think it is okay to show him there. The visitors weren't allowed to make pics from or with him and that's okay. |

After all, many stereotyping Americans have a very stereotypical view of Germany and Germans because of him. Whenever I say anything even obliquely referring to Germany, my friends instantly think ' Hitler'. Wether that is good or bad, I'll leave it up to you. |

There's this 1963 French documentary called Hitler, connais pas [Hitler, I haven't heard of him] about how youngsters had no idea who Hitler was. And it was in France -the same France that was occupied by Hitler- and in 1963, their parents and great parents fought the war.
