XD At least on the horses I work with. If there was a club or something anywhere near where I live, I would totally join it, but alas, there isn't. Maybe I should start one at the stable I go to. I totally want to go to Spain to ride, the Spanish styles are so cool. XD I can't help but imagine our stocky buckskin QH gelding in the fancy-pants Spanish tack. |
| Exquisite. Fanfic Fanatic Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 2180 | Oooh, Western riding, huh. That's pretty awesome. : ] I do ride Western from time to time, this friend of mine has got two Fjord geldings and they're trained for riding Western; so she kind of took over. We took lessons together too and it's pretty cool, except we ride out in the woods most of the time; so we don't really get to do a lot of fast spins and whatnot. And then of course; Fjordian horses aren't the best horses in the world to do Western with; they can't compeat to Quarter Horses and such, of course. In the meanwhile I've been riding that one horse Berry; the one I talked about before in this topic; for a few more times. On my own. He did real pretty good and I'm way proud of him, except for we're experiencing a bit trouble making straight lines. He's kind of wiggly, haha. It must be the newly found balance that isn't quite there yet. Because he's not used to riding and all. : ] Oh, do you guys have a lot of flies where you live? Over here it's terrible- especially the flies that have the ability to sting. It's so annoying when you're riding out. I try to put some vinnegar on the horses, but it doesn't really work for long. Anyone got THE ideal advice for me ? : ] |
| bloodstainedrainbow Writer's Block Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 34 | Feeding garlic granuals work for me. And the sprays you can buy. Fjords..... ahh, they have the coolest manes ever. I've just been watching a ton of barrel racing videos and I WISH COULD RIDE WESTERN PROPERLY SO MUCH >.< |
| Pestilence. Cliché Catastrophe Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 716 | ^Me too, I used to ride western a bunch but I don't anymore. I like jumping much better. This girl at my barn is really good at barrel racing and all the other events. She hasn't ridden much this year because she has problems with her knee, but she's gone to a few shoes and gotten first and seconds xD. Her and her horse are amazing. And for flies, you can get this stuff called equitrol and put it in with their grain. I don't know what it does but it really helps. I think you have to start giving it to them before fly season though. I use lots of bug spray, there are so many flies at our barn. Straight lines are difficult xD. Flower struggles with those. Standing still is pretty difficult to. |

| Gravity Thrill Fanfic Fanatic Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 1591 | I would love to a have a few horses but we don't have the space or the money. I'd like to have a couple of horses when I'm older though. I usde to ride at the local stables every other week but that kinda faded out when the money got short. I'm hoping to start again soon though (: At school i'm doing community service at Redwings Horse Sanctuary (or at least I should be) and I'm seriously looking forward to that. |
| Pestilence. Cliché Catastrophe Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 716 | ^That sounds fun :] I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center. I help get them ready and sometimes help feed. I also lead them for the lessons. It's fun when it's a horse that behaves well or one that I like. But some are really bad. Good luck with starting again! |
| The Brightside. SPACEMAN Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 18655 | I feel somewhat guilty as I haven't been here in ages About the flies... we get them so bad here (I live in Aus). It's absolutely horrible in summer, and Eddie gets really bothered by them. I feed my horses garlic with their hard feed, but I'm not sure if that's done anything because we only started feeding it to them this winter, when there are no flies. xD I just went to the supermarket and got a roll-on human fly repellent - it works pretty well. At first I had to get the horses used to this weird roll on ball thing running over their faces, emitting a really strong smell, but its all good now. Roll on's better for me as they're less risk of you getting it in their eyes, like you would if you sprayed on stuff on their face, and roll on gives more of a layer of repellent. And, on another topic, have you guys seen the Olympics equestrian stuff at all? Unfortunately I missed the cross country for the three day eventing, as I had school T_T but I caught Shane Rose's dressage test and then most of the eventing show jumping. Australia came second. So close! Annnd last night I saw some of the straight show jumping competition - THE JUMPS THEY JUMP ARE ABSOLUTELY HUGE! ![]() |
| Pestilence. Cliché Catastrophe Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 716 | They haven't been playing the equestrian stuff on TV here D: So I don't know where to watch it! I really want to, even though the US never places in anything xD.The jumps are ENORMOUS. They kind of scare me xD. ^We have stuff you can put on certain points of their bodies and it's supposed to repel flies and ticks and such. But I'm to afraid Flower will have some sort of reaction. She has REALLY sensitive skin. I just use spray :] |

| Skrillex. Fanfic Fanatic Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 1181 | I've never rode a horse. I know this is a really silly question, but, what's it like? ![]() |

| HeartSearching Ink Slinger Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 840 | I am supposed to get a horse next year for competition. I have only been riding for a little over two months and was told that I should go to a few shows. I am pretty proud of myself to be honest. So next year I will probably have a horse. skrillex.: Fun. The horse I ride, Lance, has lots of spring to his step though. So it is a bit bumpy. Another horse I rode is alot smoother to ride. Fun either way. |
| Exquisite. Fanfic Fanatic Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 2180 | Ahh, riding a horse isn't like anything else I have ever experienced. It's like, when you really think about it; it's so weird because it's like you're interacting with another human being because you make so many decisions together, only it's not a human being. It's like an entire different being and yet the two of you can still understand eachother and feel and fill in expectations. How weird is that? How utterly amazing is that? I just can't get my head around it, even after all these years that I've been riding. |

| Michaela_fakeit Writer's Block Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 4 | WOO FOR HORSIE THREADS.! :] I have 2 and a half horses. :] hhe, I only count Pony as a half. Piper, hes a 4 yearold Canadian. I've have him since the exact moment he was born. :] We jump, but only little jumps for now, cause I don't want to hurt his bones. : D And then theres Jessie, 15 yearold Arab. She was a rescue we got last october and she was starved and beaten the poor thing. Now she trusts people fully, and is almost actually fat haha. and Last but not Least, Pony-Fuck, a.k.a Dreamer. Shes a 3 yearold welsh pony, with a HUGE attitude. :] I love her to death. My favorite dicipline is Jumping or Cross Country. I don't show or event much though, I prefer not to. :] I also want to learn Dressage, something i've always wanted to do and had alot of oppertunities, but never taken them. :\ horsie horsie ... pony. :] |
| Pestilence. Cliché Catastrophe Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 716 | ^Aw, they sound adorable :] I love jumping and cross country too, but I can't stand dressage I don't have the patience. But me and Ace do dressage mostly, since he gets really sore when we jump. Flower got an abscess in her back foot :[ Then when it was healed, she got one in her other back foot >: | She's so sore, it's awful. I feel bad for the vet, he's come at least three or four times in the past month xD. |
| Michaela_fakeit Writer's Block Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 4 | Aww, Abcesses' suck. Piper had one not too long ago in his front left hoof. They're a huge pain in the behind. haha:] But hes all better now and were jumping again, starting back up small. :] hha But it was pitiful to watch him try to walk, he would limp really bad, and i thought he had a frigging broken leg when I first seen him ! haha, we got the vet out and he cut out the abcess and let ir drain [ew] haha, but hes all better now :] I just don't want to bring him on trails, incase hes still a bit sore, so i'm working mostly in one of the out door rings insted of inside, to get his feet good n' hard again.:] I hope Flower gets better! <3 :] |
| spam Writer's Block Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 45 | Pestilence.: I wouldn't feel bad for the vet.... they're getting paid for it |
