The Tudors are one of the most famous royal families ever to rule England.
The monarchs of this time were (in order of reign);
Henry VII,
Henry VIII,
Edward VI,
Lady Jane Grey (this can be argued as she was not a Tudor),
Mary I,
Elizabeth I.

The Tudor period lasted between 1485 and 1603, when the Virgin Queen Elizabeth died.

What do you think of the Tudor family and the monarchs?
Any strange or interesting facts that you know about the Tudors and their lifestyle?
What is your opinion of the reign of each Tudor and their wars, etc?

Find out more about the Tudors from this site. It has everything you would want to know about the Tudor period.

As for the Tudors, I've always had a large interest in English history, especially the Tudor family. I've been meaning to read more books on them, but I can never get my hands on decent ones; ones that keep my interest. As of late, I've been sucked in by the TV show, the Tudors, which is based off the royal family and their problems/accomplishments.

If Henry VIII was anything like he was/is in the TV show, he's a dick.

I find the Tudors fascinating. I think that time period brought so much change to Britain and I always find learning about the Tudors interesting.

I always enjoyed learning about Henry VIII's wives. I find learning about their lives astonishing. I reckon it's probably the most interesting period of time I've ever learnt about in History.

'OASIEHGTO;IASHEG!

No seriously I have an obsession.
Like, a bad one.

I can recite Henry VIII's wives origins, causes for a new wife and much more.
Especially Anne Boleyn...

It's kind of sad really.

And Edward, Jane (not as much but maybe), Mary and Elizabeth (to some extent) fascinate me too. Mostly their treatment of one another...

I am currently studying them for a project and theres so much depth to this royal line, I have no idea where to start.

The show 'The Tudors' disappoints me however as alot of it is not factual

Henry VIII is probably one of the most famous royal men in history.... And for all the wrong reasons. I love reading about Cathraine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn; Anne has to be credited for making the first steps to giving us the Church of England - although not fully, because nearly all of Henry's wives were given a Catholic funeral, even the King himself.
Edward was too young to take the throne, though he tried to keep it as his father had. Then Mary took over and although she was a good ruler, at the end of her reign she did go a bit over board with the 'witch hunt' as it were. Poor Jane was the shortest lived Queen... her reign didn't last too long... I think it was only a month. The funnest part of it was that it was her father and uncle who did all the plotting, she was just a puppet doing what she was told.
Not much needs to be said about Elizabeth, aside from the fact that it was her cousin Mary's son, James who took over the throne of England and created the union between Scotland and England.
I don't know too much about the Tudor history to be honest.... Wink

I would hightly disagree about not saying much about Elizabeth...

She was a hugely strong leader, who really did lead her country into a wonderful age of prosperity...

And then, y'know...killed her cousin, but she was a Tudor - it's highly unlikely for her to do much else...

(I kid, I kid)

And some might say she saved drama in England. Most of England's lower officials (and clergy) hated the idea that people went to see plays, but only put up with it because the queen loved them. Shakespeare was highly in her favor...

That's what I meant though, Elizabeth doesn't need much to be said because there is so much already known about her. She did order her cousin to be executed, but it took her a long time to sign it, and when she spent her dying day's she did agonize over it too.

The Tudors have always interested me, particularly Henry VIII.
I just finished my history assignment on him, I've never worked so hard on anything in my life. >.>
I love shows like The Tudors even if they're historically inaccurate, they're still fascinating.

well, i like to jokingly call myself King Henry VIII's 7th wife....
I'm in love with the Tudors series, mainly because of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, i mean, he couldn't of been that hot....
I love "The other Boleyn Girl" by Phillippa Gregory if anyone wanted a good book to read.....
I've just come back from England and all the history there has made me love King Henry even more...even though he is dead!!!

That whole family did a lot to make England where it is today, not just the Church of England, but other things as well...
Long live Cardinal Wolsey!

Well, Henry was pretty hot when he was younger; but as he got older... And as he managed to get more wives, he became.... Well old and unhealthy.
I felt sorry for a German Queen, who was only wed to Henry for a few month's... English history claims that she was the ugly one, when in fact she was pretty.

What makes me almost laugh about Henry's whole health situation - especially his obesity - and how it was most likely the cause of his fifth wife's (Kathryn Howard) unloyalty is that back in those days, to be fat was a sign of wealth. Although, not in woman.

However, I suppose that Henry's case was just getting to the stage of being utterly repulsive.

So did I. I don't think the movie included as much history as the book did though.

I love this era of history, I've always been fascinated by it, and Anne Boleyn draws me inexplicably, she was just amazing and I don't think she deserves the bad rep she recieved, and certainly not the ending she got, though Henry did show her a kindness by giving her a french swordsman instead of a clumsy axe man.

But with that said Anne did turn Henry to his more tyrant, self-absorbed side. Henry was a brillant man, until he got to his later life, where his obsession with himself, and with creating a male heir over powered him, he looked for answers as to why he didn't have a son, and in consequent blamed those he found it prudent to, and I think a very major underlying reason for his infidelity was due to this fact, but enough ranting on him.

As for the book, I love Philippa Gregory, and I read "The Other Boleyn Girl", it was well written but I didn't much like the book, espcially how she chose to portray Anne, and making Mary the younger, innocent one. It was a good book, but I didn't agree with many of the points.

And funnily enought, one of England's greatest rulers came from the makings of one of their most despised queens, Anne. Here the people thought Mary, being birthed from the good catholic queen Catherine, would be a great ruler, and well she wasn't the best, but then come's the witch/whore's daughter, and my my how they were wrong, though Elizabeth did have her faults too.

i have a question, in the book, it says that Mary gave birth to two of Henry's sons.
Is that a true fact and what did happen to them??

No, Mary gave birth to Henry Carey, who many believe was King Henry's bastard, along with Catherine Carey, another bastard of the kings, but never legitimized.

After her affair with the King, Mary married William Stafford, and gave birth to a son, named Edward, and perhaps a daughter, but they were solely William's and hers.

And in the book Mary is credited with just Henry and Catherine, not two sons.
