-feels like an abomination-
What exactly does Hot Topic sell?
Hot Topic is what I would consider a novelty store. It make contracts with companies of different novelties--usually certain movies and music considered to be some form of rock (usually 70s through current--I've seen Elvis and the Beatles shirts in there, but outside of that, no other artists from the 50s or 60s). They will sell merch of that novelity for a certain amount of time (usually in months) and then it will go out. When I worked there, the big novelities were Harry Potter, Disney, video games, and Sweeney Todd, and the most advertised bands were Paramore and Boys Like Girls (I think they were on tour at the time or had just broken out or something).

They also sell clothes and accessories based on punk/goth fashion. The most dominant clothing line is Torrid, which HT owns I believe. If you want to see what I mean, they have a website: www.hottopic.com.

It's not what I would consider the "coolest" or "best" store out there but I like it and I liked my working experience there. :)

A lot of my friends are scared to go in there.
O.O
I love it in there, though.
It's pretty cool and the merch is always stocked.
I wouldn't mind working there if there was a location near me.

Australia doesn't have any. Yet.
I think the closest equivalent we have is Dangerfield.

I have to drive an hour to get to the nearest Hot Topic.
grr..
The people that work there are amazingly nice.
Yeah, the people that work there are really nice!
This one time, me and my sister didn't have enough money to pay for our stuff, so the guy that was ringing us up starts digging through his pockets for change.
It turned out we didn't need his change. :D
I've always wanted to work there, but I don't really look like the type of person that would work there.

I'm exactly 10 minutes from the mall, where there is a Hot Topic, and I'm actually working there now. I'm 5'9 so I got hired 'cause of height. They said I looked like a 20 year old, and I'm taller than my mom, who's in her forties.

I would love to work at Hot Topic, but I don't think I'd get full time hours, so I can't.
Otherwise, it would be amazing. Where whatever the fuck I want, get a discount, and hang out with cool people all day.

I shop at Hot Topic every once in a blue moon, but I would never ever ever ever ever ever EVER be caught dead working in that store. It's so stereotypical. The people who work there are like twenty/thirty, and they hang out with a bunch of emo high schoolers (well, at least in my area). It makes them look pathetic. All they do is smoke weed, get drunk, and talk about how much their life sucks. Not even exaggerating. They're so annoying.

Plus, they work at a fucking MALL. How the hell do they pay their bills?!

That's why I would want to work there during college. The people that work at Hot Topic are so cool.

They could have more than one job. They just don't have to work at Hot Topic.

I want to work there in the summer because it's going to be one of the few jobs hiring. I don't really shop there much anymore, but a lot of the people who work there are around my age and are really cool. It could be a good summer job to make some extra money.

One of the girls I'm acquaintances with that works in Hot Topic doesn't condone drug use at all and fired one of the girls who worked there for smoking pot.

And I've never once had a Hot Topic employee complain to me about how much their life sucks. They're always very polite and nice. They ask if I need help. They're super nice to my mom too, who looks like a fucking square.

At the Hot Topic in my mall they start at seven fifty or higher. I make eight. And cashiers at my job [Walgreens] start at seven. I'm managing to pay my bills and, depending on the area, I'm sure some of them can too.

I'd love to work at Hot Topic but you'd have to be lucky enough to find an opening.
