Grammar Guru Age: 68 Gender: Male Posts: 5576	June 14th, 2008 at 10:15am I figured since there's a thread for books that you do like, post here the books that you read that you didn't like, or had a problem with. Don't just say that you hated it because it was shit, actually say why. :] I didn't much like To Kill a Mockingbird. I mean, it's got a really good storyline and everything, but the way everything is described. I mean, the narrator, Scout, is seven! And she uses and understands words most adults wouldn't know. It would have been fine if it was in Atticus' point of view, though. How about you guys?

o rly? Ink Slinger Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 884	June 14th, 2008 at 06:46pm I don't like teen books that follow the typical rich girl cliques, like Gossip Girl and all of those things. I feel like they rely on being more "juicy" and materialistic to be popular, rather than having actual emotion. The only other book I can think of that I hated was Old Man In The Sea. We read it last year in Literature, and I found it so pointless - guy follows fish. I didn't get why it was such a classic.

Just about some snobby rich girls getting in to random drama. I didn't really like The Giver. I found it quite boring and confusing. And the thought of being one of the fifty conformists of the town gives me the shivers.

I'll just stick to my strange fantasy novels The Fall I have to say it isn't Garth Nix's best and it disapointed me. It was all a bit predictable and the protaganist was too arghish But other than that I've liked every book I've ever read. Though odds are I'll reread both of them someday and I'll probably enjoy them a second time round.

I didn't like the ending though, it was like she had to finish it in two pages. She should of put more description in at the end.

It made me want to hit my head against a brick wall. It was just so... childish, yet it was trying to be deep and mature. And it's really a shame because his other books are genius. And How To Kill A Mockingbird. Yes, morally it's great. I don't like it. At all.

Its very dull and he doesn't give you enough insight into his characters.

Any book that is: a/about vampires, just eww... b/cheap. I mean I love shiny books with big covers and images and stuff. If the books is too cheap then it's just a cheap book. But books are too expensive nowadays anyway. Yeah. But tiny little pocket editions are just ugly. Or the ones with brown-gray-ish paper. Eww. c/a stupid translation or a child translation. I wanted to murder the translator of The Epic of Gilgamesh. d/teen fiction best sellers I know. I am a snob. I generally dislike super-sold books. e/I have a thing against American writers. Unless it's Fitzgerald. f/I have a thing against German writers. Unless it's Hesse. I forced myself to read Kafka and Goethe. I just can't. We're just not meant to be together. g/Stephen King. Just no. h/books that you'd expect to be about something else but they're not about what you expect. Like Iliad. Horrible. I'm sorry Homer, blame all the movies and kid books on the Trojan war. i/books that are too long for their own good. There are books that you can read super fast and books that you can't. Even don Quijote gets boring after a while. >_> And I forced myself to like don Quijote. I mean I like Quijote, I love it. But it's still too long. j/angsty books. k/over-rated books, books that everyone adores/talks about for some other reason than the writing style - coughTheDaVinciCodecough- l/blue books m/cheap gay fiction books. just eww. I'm a LGBT rights supporter and all that, but books written just to show how ''okay'' being gay is, and how hard it's to face the world are just stupid. just propaganda really. maybe I'm just jealous because it never happens to me. n/lonely housewives books. sandra brown. o/snob books. The Alchemist, Magus, Johnathan Livingstone, etc. etc. etc. They're all over-rated and horrible. p/old-old books that are too long for their own sake. I love old books and old language but to read De Bello Gallico is hell. I don't want to read 800 pages about military expeditions. q/books about drugs. Burroughs's Junkie was livable but everything else I've read was just too angsty and over-dramatic. r/books about having cancer or some other random disease when in the end the main character dies. Just cliche, just sad, just disrespectful to all the people who actually have cancer. s/books about historic events you haven't actually lived. Rich snob writing about the Holocaust/Communist regime is just disrespectful, cliche and ugly. t/biographies of famous people. Autobiographies are okay-ish. The Lives of the Caesars was nice. But crappy biographies of rockstars... those are not even books XD u/graphic novels. Those are not proper books either. v/huge atlases with many beautiful pictures. They're too beautiful and too expensive. They make me sad because I can't buy them all. That's such a wrong reason to dislike a book. w/books about conspiracies. x/books about third world countries. y/philosophy books that have commentaries all awkward. z/Freud books because I dislike Freud and just self-help books. They're just creepy. I wanted to do the whole alphabet. Don't listen to me though. I am such a snob for making such a long list. All books are beautiful and worth reading.
the ketchup punch Grammar Guru Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 4382	June 16th, 2008 at 02:31am The Great Gatsby bored me, I couldn't get into Lord of the Flies, I read half of Twilight and then had to put it down due to developing an irrational hatred towards Bella (my friend lent it to me saying "you won't like it", but did I listen? No... I have to give it back, actually >_< ) I tried to read A Tale of Two Cities when I was ten. It was lost on me. I didn't get very far. I should try it again but it seems pretty intimidating... The Gathering Light was addictive but, actually... what was the point in that book? I kept waiting for something happen. Did it? No. Nothing.

I hated it.
Guernica. Amateur Author Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 247	June 16th, 2008 at 05:17am I didn't like Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I thought it was sorta boring. I only made it through about seventy pages before I got tired of it though. But some of my friends liked it a lot.
HeartSearching Ink Slinger Age: 14 Gender: Female Posts: 840	June 16th, 2008 at 06:35am The Uglies series dragged on. It was like, "Come on already! It was supposed to be a trilogy, but now it is a quad?". It was fine as one or two books but after that it just got tiring.
