The Odyssey drove me nuts as well. We had to read the condensed version in my freshman english class and even that drove me over the deep end. It was so 'Oh, I want to go home, so bad!' and all I had to think was 'Then why are you spending so much time unnecessarily in random places?!'

And all the books by John Steinbeck. I know, he's supposed to be one of the great American novelists but he just bores me to tears. Reading his books was just completely horrible because they were short and just completely foul. They bored me and reading them was like cruel and unusual punishment.

The Odyssey annoyed me a lot, too. We had to read that in class also, along with Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men. I didn't like that one, either - I found the book to be just plain boring, for the most part, and the ending is kind of...depressing. Not depressing in a good way, though.

Anything by Meg Cabot annoys the hell outta me.

Stargirl was one I never got into. It was a long time ago but I just remember finding it so damn boring. xD

Also, I hate the His Dark Materials collection by Phillip Pullman with a passion. The writing style is just boring and I didn't find the plot interesting at all. I managed to finish the first one because when I read it it was summer and I was bored shitless, but I put the second one down after about two chapters. Never again will I read one of his.

Even though I love the Twilight series, I can understand people having issues with it. I have to admit I found New Moon boring - when Edward left, it seemed as though time stood still and nothing happened. All she did was mope for months, and that's not an excuse for a plotline. Though I would be interested to see that period of time from Edward's POV. And I do agree that at first their love seemed a little rushed and superficial, but I quickly got over it the deeper they got into their relationship.

I despised 'Frankenstein'. It was rather a silly plot. The doctor makes a monster because he can? What? And every minute detail was overly described (ie; The bird's wing was sculpted as if by Michael Angelo.) Oh, bla bla bla. Or, they'd say one thing and say it FIVE DIFFERENT WAYS. Shocked Why would you need to do that? The book, to me, was wretched.

I also disliked 'Dracula'. I just didn't like it.

I HATED the book The Garden by Eva someone...bleh, read it and it really offended me and I've never hated a book so much in my life....

I usually hate a book and then reread it a few years later or something and end up loving it. Like Lord Of The Flies....

(Except The Garden, which I'll never touch again.)

Seizure by (Robin Cook I think? Anyway, the last name was Cook).

I don't care if he's the author of many "amazing" medical thrillers, it just bored me. First of all, it was really stupid. Second of all, what a way to end the book, your two main characters falling off a balcony then the girlfriend going home. WTF. I don't hate many books, but anything by that author... bleh.

And now I return with more books I hate =D

Of Mice and Men
Island of the Dolphins
The Frog
The Wolfen

I don't remember the authors...

Also, The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice.

Aaaaaand... anything by Nora Roberts.

And to add to my little rant, I hate romance novels. They're long, boring, and most of them don;t get to the smut and everything always has a happy ending. And I can't find any gay romances without it being about vampires.
There, I'm done for now. Expect me back soon though, as I just got a ton more books at the store X3

I hated The Odyssey, and Perseus (both abridged versions).
I guess I just find Greek legends kinda boring.
They're not really my thing.

I hated Across Five Aprils, Johny Tremain and Huckleberry Finn (I had to read those for advanced 8th grade US History) they were all so boring, and huckleberry finn it took me over 2 weeks to read the first 100 pages, so I just read the Cliff Notes.

Theres alot of books I read I didn't care much for.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Twilight series but I've got to agree with Matthew Sanders, New Moon literally just consisted of Bella just... moping.

I mean I didn't mind at first but about 200 pages later and you're like 'when will it end?'

Cheese

Also this is irrelivent but it kinda bugged me how it took till the third book for Stephenie Meyer to actully thank the fans.

Ditto what's been said about New Moon. It really did my head in with Bella moping.

It was only a teenage romance tehe

Breaking Dawn was also a big disappointment. At times I felt like it was badly written fanfiction with the plotlines changing every chapter.

Sharp Teeth.

I have no idea who it's by but it was a werewolf story that was written like a poem.

I read about 5 pages before I couldn't follow the storyline any more. It really confused me.

I hated having to read the Odyssey in my freshmen English class; we were supposed to be reading it for our unit ont literary heroes, and a hero's journey and such. But Odysseus wasn't a hero, he was just a time-wasting asshole. I can't remember a single thing he did in that story that can be considered heroic, that he actually did on his own (for christ's sake, he needed help with everything, he was a horrible character).

Probably any book that I had to read in this advanced English program I was in from fifth to eigth grade. Like Watership Down; it's like...rabbits who talk, have wars with each other, and even know how to resemble dictatorship, like Hitler, or something. It was interesting, but obviously not very believable, and most of it just dragged on and on, taking like three long chapters for just one unimportant event to happen.

The only 'classic' book I ever read in that class and liked was To Kill a Mockingbird, but even then, when you have to analyze the hell out of these books like we did in my class, it really takes the enjoyment out of reading it.

Oh lord. That book is so terrible. I chose to read it, too, and I was kicking myself for it the whole time.
