So, today a new law went trough in Sweden.
Called the F R A law.

Which means that EVERYTHING we do will be monitored.
Emails.
Text messages.
Phone calls.
And so on.

And they don't need to think we're committing a crime, no no, they have the right to listen in or read our email anyway.

Am I the only one who thinks this is sick?

It's like, uh, yeah because Sweden is just filled with terrorists, so we need that law.

No more freedom in Sweden, that's for sure.

Anyone think this is good/bad?

They already do that in most countries ... because of terrorists attacks and all.
I don't think people should overreact.
It's bothering to know that someone will read your correspondence/ listen to your phone calls. But at the same time if it helps stop a terrorist attack in which millions could die I don't really mind.
Now the problem is that it doesn't always work perfectly. XD

I think it's awful, and it all kinda happened without the Swedish people getting their say in the matter.
Lets just say I'm incredibly angry.

I think it's incredibily unfair and I'm not even from Sweden (or anywhere near it).
It is extremely bothersome and a lack of privacy and I do not agree with it. Yeah, I can see why the government would set this up but I think it's insane that they'd monitor everyone's everythings.

But like "sueno?" said, it probably won't work perfectly, or even close to it.

I'm sure that they have their reasons. Stopping a terrosist attack could save hundreds of lives.
Did it happen all of a sudden or did they tell everyone that they were going to be passing a new law?

Yeah, but it's SWEDEN!
We don't really have that many terrorists you know.
In USA, sure, but in SWEDEN of all countries.
Bye freedom is all I can say.

Lets just say, we found out a few weeks ago, but the Swedish people had no say in it, just the politicians.

Lets just say this; The Swedish people are outrageous.
And they should be.
A country without freedom, what kind of country is that?
Sweden sucks!

You didn't answer my question, so I will. The Swedish people did, so who is to blame here?

And to be honest it's almost insulting for you to say your country has no freedom. When you live under a communist dictatorship in Cuba, or Saudi Arabia and have no freedom of speech or religion, then we'll talk. When you live in Sudan and your government supports genocides aimed at you, then you'll have no freedom. The fact that you're able to criticize your government and speak out against legislation shows that you do have freedom.

FrankieMonster:
Sweden sucks!

Well, keep saying that, I'm sure it will change everything. Think Or, you could use your freedoms constructively and write letters to your parliament and protest the law. Complaining about it on a message board and saying NO FREEDOM!!11 won't change anything.

No though, all polititians (eh, that looks wrong, whatever....) haven't been elected by the Swedish people. We have only elected which party should be in charge, but ALL polititians voted. Therefore, no, it's NOT our fault, and YES we can be angry.

That's a little like saying no one is allowed to complain about being hungry, when there's children starving all over the world. Or people complaining about school, "No, think of those who aren't even able to go to school."
Yes, it's horrible, and so on, but that doesn't mean that we have to be happy about losing our freedom!

I'm expressing my opinion, and yes, I'm planning to write a letter like that when I'm home in Sweden and have my Swedish keyboard (the English ones doesn't have three letters that we have in out alphabet, trying to type a letter without those three is like trying to type in English and not being allowed to use 'E' 'U' or 'O'. Meaning, I can't write the letter until I'm back in Sweden next week.).

Well, seeing as how this discussion is not about hunger or school, it isn't like that. You're saying you're losing your freedom when no such thing is happening. Sweden is just adopting a policy for your safety that virtually every other country in the world has.

I don't blame you for being upset, and I encourage you to write that letter, it's important to be active in your government, but if all you say is "Sweden sucks" and "we're not free!!1" they won't even read it. You need to explain how this takes away your freedom (and I personally would not say freedom, because you can still do whatever you want, I would say right to privacy but that's just me) and how you would alter the legislation to make it better.

^ I agree.

I wouldn't get so worked up about it personally though, because they can't monitor everything, all the time. There would be too many people doing too many things at once for it all to be seen.

And it would be too expensive to monitor everyone, all the time with no reason. Most governments have policies like that in case there was ever a time they were needed.

I find stuff like this ridiculous. I understand where you are coming from [privacy is an important thing to everyone], but Kurtni is mostly right. The people of Sweden elected these politicians, right? Well, if these polititians are true to their word, then the people of Sweden can't do much complaining.

It's not like they're prying into people's lives to see if they don't like the government, it's for the mere purpose of safety. Trust me, I've heard a lot of stories about the lack of freedom, but this doesn't have that much to do with it. I'm sure you'd rather have your calls listened to by authorities than by terrorists trying to find out everything about your life so they can find the perfec occasion to freakin' kill you.

But yeah, like I said, we didn't elect them .____.

"There are three types of ballots. The first type has the name of a party and a list of their candidates. The second type has the name of a party only. The third type is blank. In other countries, the ballot contains the name of all parties in the election. In Sweden, each party has a separate ballot. If the voter wants to vote for a particular candidate, the first type is selected and a mark made next to the candidate. If the voter wants to vote for a particular party, the second type is selected. The third type is for write-ins. After the ballot is selected and filled in if necessary, it is sealed in an envelope and handed to electoral officers"

You don't? Shifty

I'm sure thats exactly what everyone wondered after 9/11. It doesn't matter if you're known to have terrorists now, it's a safety procedure in case you were to.

We select which party is in charge, like I've already explained, and we select who is the 'head' of each party, but we don't select EVERY single polititian, and all polititians voted, meaning, no we did NOT select ALL the people who voted.

Comparing Sweden to USA really makes no sense, because the two countries are nothing alike.
