My dad got rid of the limewire and ran a ton of scans. Now it works fine except for the blue screen, occasional pop-ups, and little glitches and errors that make me have to restart the computer (like when I open AIM and the internet window that pops up just keeps making more and more tabs).
Is there a way to get rid of the virus and return the computer to normal? |

Take it to an IT specialist. I'm sure they can get rid of it. |

Another site would be better. Preferably a legal one would avoid getting viruses. |

 Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 30 | July 2nd, 2008 at 07:49pm Okay, I'll try.
And I used it to get three or four songs I literally could not get anywhere else- not on a legal site, not on another illegal site, not on iTunes, not on a CD. I used limewire as a last resort. I'm not gonna use it again nor any other site 'cause any ones I want from now on I should be able to get at FYE on a CD.
Thanks for the help :] |

I guess their taking it into there own hands...... |

Limewire is a file sharing program. Likely the computer's you've downloaded files off have the viruses. |

Virus scanner or no virus scanner.
I think I might change though |

My virus scanner didn't work that much, so I got another one. So we have two different anti-virus programmes for extra protection.
McAfee and Vista. |

Yes, but the selected song files have the virus from the computer that they came from. |

Yeah, but I'm just saying she should know what file they were rather than what song. Because you could download the same song and not get a virus. |

Like yours, it flashed the blue screen of death and whenever you turned it on all you saw was the blue screen with random stuff on it. We had to take ours into a specialist, who wiped the hard drive clean and deleted everything pretty much to get rid of the virus. When we got it back we had to instal everything. What your computer has sounds very similar, so maybe that'll help?
Limewire is why I buy all my music now XD |

Age: 83 Gender: Female Posts: 267 | July 11th, 2008 at 11:12pm I suggest using Norton 2008. Virtually every time I try to get a song, it blocks a "Trojan virus" from my computer. It makes me want to hug whoever made Norton. |

 Age: 15 Gender: Male Posts: 9484 | July 14th, 2008 at 01:21pm Aye. I have Norton 360. Works perfectly.
However the blue screen of death isn't necesserily a virus. It's usually a hardware problem. I got the Blue Screen of Death, and I googled the error code, and it told me to change the RAM sticks...The computer works perfectly.
The error code + google = solution xD |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 129 | July 17th, 2008 at 11:38pm In my experience, AVG works way better than Norton, because AVG usually picks up loads more than Norton. Plus, AVG can be downloaded for free. I also recommend using a Firewall that actually works well like Zone Alarm.
I only use Limewire if I absolutely have to, and I usually scan the files for viruses before opening them, first. I'm pretty sure you can still get viruses without opening to files, however. |
