Then again.. I have about three different programs that fish out and get rid of cookies, viruses, whatever other kinds of junk computers get. xD I use AVG, Spybot, and... I can't remember the other. But they're all free, so maybe try those? |

And I'd definitely recommend anti-virus software.
There are some very good ones that you can get for free. |

In my experience, Norton is just irritable. It doesn't allow you to do anything, and that's a problem if you download stuff a lot or even transfer pics between you and your friends on AIM. And even with restricting you to stuff it still doesn't catch a lot.
Spybot catches a tonne of spyware on my comp. I swear it goes into the hundreds every time I scan Which I recommend doing a lot.
And AVG just pwns. It catches pretty much everything and is also free.
Limewire is just a breeding ground for viruses though. Get it off your computer completely. From the source and everything. |

Ditto, I've never gotten a virus from Limewire.
You could always try Panda Antivirus, it's amazing. |

It is bloat-ware, unreliable, slows down computers, has false positives and misses thousands of common viruses.
Now, no av is perfect, but I recommend avast! Home edition, i swear by it. With Norton i swore AT it.
It is not worth the hassle and the money. but, based on the original virus description, try a little app called Rogue Remover, it may help. It is excellent at removing pretend antiviruses.
you can get avast @ www.avast.com
you need to go hunting for Rogue Remover.
Edit: I'd also recommend A-squared by EMSI. You can get it here

Age: 15 Gender: Male Posts: 133 | August 7th, 2008 at 02:33pm I've got Bullguard Anti-Virus at the moment, and I've been using Limewire ever since we got this computer. I also used Limewire on the other computer (XP) and we used Panda AntiVirus software, no problems with that either. I think it depends on the Software really.
You're better off with software other than Norton, because the people who create viruses have kind of found ways to get around it. |

Age: 69 Gender: Female Posts: 2217 | August 9th, 2008 at 09:23pm I've never had a problem with limewire, the only thing is that theres this one message that seems to have a coding which means it comes up as whatever you type in. Then you open it and it's all 'my fellow Americans, I must inform you, I did not have sex with blah blah...'
But I don't use Limewire.
I've never understood what Limewire can be used for other than illegal software and music downloads...

Limewire also has high rates of Trojans (which can hack into bank account details etc) and other tracking viruses.
I completely rid my computor of it.

Limewire is used for sharing files. It's a file sharing program.
You get it illegally though. |

How do you get it illegally?
Sharing music/programs/etc. without paying for it is considered illegally.
And you're not on msn. -whines- |

Limewire is used for sharing files. It's a file sharing program. I get that, I just don't know what you would share on it, other than music and videos.
I mean, if you had a personal document, you aren't going to send it through Limewire.
So I just don't get what, besides music and videos, is shared on it... |

That's where Limewire has it's loophole. The actual program itself isn't illegal because it isn't uploading copyrighted files and giving them out for free.
It's the people that are using it for illegal procedures that make people think it's illegal.
You are allowed to share programs, files, music and videos that you have created yourself, or that you have designed, but if it's copyrighted and you don't have the license to it then it's illegal to a) upload it onto the program and b) download it from the program.

Age: 19 Gender: Female Posts: 602 | August 12th, 2008 at 12:02pm I have a great solution for those who are having problems with viruses from Limewire - don't use it.
Yeah, I'm sure you've all heard that one before. But it's true. If you're worried about getting viruses from it, ask yourself this - what's more important: getting that music track, or your personal documents and information? You also have to think about others who may use the computer you download from. |
