Make sure you show that you have interest in the job. Call up one of the jobs that you have applied for.

Don't give up and keep trying, whatever you do. It could be that you're applying for jobs that require something different of you, or the jobs you're applying for are popular and spaces are being taken up by earlier applicants, even if you hand yours in early.

Try loads of different places spanning across different types of shops. Aim high, and then work your way down.

Aww. Keep trying. You'll get one.

When making resumes, make them stand out amongst the others, that way it'll catch the eyes of the person(s) looking through them. That's what I did, it worked.

Good luck! =D

Make sure you are also applying to places that are looking for people your age. To work in retail or for a small business, at least around here, you won't find a job until you are either a bit older or have some other jobs on your resume.

So for your first job, start looking in chain stores, supermarkets, fast food or other places who employ without skills or pre-qualifications. After that, the main thing is to present a smart resume, get a few character references from adults (not family members or friends) and make sure you are dressed sensibly when you hand them in. Remember you are dressing for an audience- your prospective employer, and employers look for tidiness, not fashion statements.

Some basic things you should include in your resume, in order:

-Full name
-Date of birth
-Address
-Contact information

-A short statement summarising what kind of job you are looking for- ie, casual or full-time work, in what kind of workplace and which hours you are availabe.

-Details of your current education level
-Name of the school you attend
-Subjects you currently study
-List of any extracurricular activities you do there
-Any awards you've won

-List of your past schools and years attended

-List of any skills you have- ie, computer literacy, team skills, good phone manner.

-List of your personal qualities which would make you a desirable employee- ie, honest, hardworking, approachable.

-A list of your hobbies and interests, to prove you have a life, social skills, etc.

-And finally, the names of at least two adults (preferably teachers, as they've known you in a 'professional' capacity) for a character assessment and the contact details for those people.

Make sure it is correctly spelled and professionally presented (no pictures or decoration, just serious, clear and easy to read), and... voila!

Actually take your resume in and see the boss.
My boss just throws out resumes that have been sent in, cause the way he figures it, if they cant be bothered to come and see him, they won't be a productive worker.

I have the same problem, and I just gave up since I really don't need a job, my mom told me as long as I was going to school and getting good grades she was going to pay for everything I need.. BUT

that really doesn't show me the value of money. So I'm going to try again when I move which will be a better thing to do.

And you should just call them back and ask them if they have looked at your application and what not, they usually hire you if you keep on calling cause then they know you really want the job.

Go roudn from shop to shop asking for job application forms. They generally work better than handing in your CV or whatever...

And don't let failing get you down. I've applied for at least 10, maybe 15 jobs. Been to 4 or 5 interviews and failed them all.

I have one tomorrow to fail. Lol.

Always try to get jobs through family or friends.
It works, I have a steady job that I got because of my sister, I'm earning great money and I feel no desire to work somewhere else.

Make sure you're handing in resumes to the kinds of places you are likely to get jobs. If you only apply to retailers and the kind of shops that prefer work experience, I wouldn't be surprised if you get knocked back 12 consequtive times. If you apply to 12 different supermarkets, McDonalds and Dairy Queens you're chances will be much better.

Also, when you see the stores with vacany signs, it never hurts to ask about the position. It shows you have an interest in the job, but doesn't give the employer the impression that you're a pain as constantly calling them might do. Just ask the staff there for tips on applying- chances are they will be happy to tell you what the owners are looking for.

The economy is getting bad, so that's why there's a sparce amount of jobs available now. Less people are getting hired.

Same is true here, but if you do it right you can make your own luck. In my city, any job in a retailer, working in the mall or for a private business is usually full, but places like supermarkets and Mcdonalds, KFC etc have a fast turnover, as they employ mostly young people, and nobody wants to stay in a job like that forever.

I heard that you have a less chance of getting hired if someone you know works there..

There's about three of us in my group who don't have jobs. Everyone else (and I mean everyone else) got their jobs through people they knew. It really does work.

I've applied so many places, it's untrue. No where has vacancies, and I'm starting to get really skint...
