Age: 18 Gender: Female Posts: 179 | August 4th, 2008 at 10:26pm Too young to get a formal paying job where I live, but I do volunteer at my local Oxfam. It's work experience, it's laid back, and my god it's fun. Being a shop where you have to sort through everyone's old junk, it's quite interesting. Sometimes we'll get stuff that you just won't find anywhere else, but is so good you want to take home. Plus we're not allowed to seel electrical goods so we get first dibs for that. I got my iPod, my radio, and my tv game joystick thingy from there. Love it.
Moving this to volunteer topic...Didn't see it before |

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 1066 | August 22nd, 2008 at 03:33pm I'm working at two places atm!
One is waitressing at a pub called The Alice Lisle. I basically take out the food, condiments and cutlery, and if people are eating outside in the garden they get given these little buzzer things, so that when their food is ready I page them on whichever number buzzer they have and take their food to the hotplate for them to come get it. People tend to think that waitressing is easy money for dumbshits who can't do anything else, but it's actually kinda difficult. I still haven't worked out the plan for all the table numbers in my head, I have to memorise everything on the regular menu, as well as the specials menu if it's after 6 pm, and the trays are extremely heavy. I curse my need for money every time someone orders a fish skillet because they come in these heuuuuge cast iron skillets that weigh roughly the same as a baby cow. Although, my bosses are really nice and I get a lot of five hour shifts, so that's good, at £4.60 an hour. It's just...really not a good career move for me considering that my arms are basically like pipe cleaners and I have to make about 43967945864 trips back and forth when I'm clearing tables because I can't carry much weight.
Job the second is at Specsavers opticians. I'm only on a trial period at the moment but it's looking to be a much better experience than waitressing. I have to take and make phonecalls and send emails, mark people in for appointments and chase them up if they don't turn up, seat people when they arrive, that kind of secretary-esque stuff. But I also get to dispense prescriptions, advise on and sell frames, and do pre-tests on people for glaucoma and to measure peripheral vision.
It's gonna be pretty sweet.
And just as a general word of advice to anyone who's thinking of working in a posh hair salon: don't. |

Now and again, I babysit for many many children.
And I currently work as a cleaner for a lady.
It's good pay, so I don't complain.

I'm a babysitter.. Whenever they need me, they pay fairly good.. Usually thirty dollars for five hours of babysitting...
I walk the dogs on the farm next to us.. They have five.. And I get five dollars per dog.. Twice a week. Fifty dollars a week.
I work at a Pita place, on the weekends, six dollars fifty cents an hour. I work for around five hours every time I go in; which are on Fridays and Saturdays. Thirty two fifty a day, for five hours...
I make pretty good money. |

The hours are great and although the pay isn't super ($7.50 an hour with 25 cent increases every so often) the people I work with are really nice and I've gotten to know many of them very well. |

 Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 9977 | October 10th, 2008 at 06:18pm I work in a newsagent.
I don't want to because I rarely spend my money but my mum made me get a job because she thinks I'm too shy and need 'social interaction with adults'.
I've worked in two other newsagents but I got fired for not talking to customers and being too shy.
It's really easy for me to get a job at a newsagent now because I had to go to this lotto course and if I've already been then the workplace doesn't need to send me again.
