I am dying to get one, people are scared because other people are scared and I really think that they're unloved. |

I think it'd be interesting to have one, or a gigantic tarantula. Even if they could kill you.
I'm scared of poisonous ones, but I'd still have one for a pet. |

Age: 15 Gender: Male Posts: 162 | August 3rd, 2008 at 10:09pm Well it depends what type you have.
A Chilean rose or a Mexican red knee are really cheap and safe but something like an Usambara Orange baboon is incredibly pretty but agressive as Hell and really venomous too. >_< |

Age: 15 Gender: Male Posts: 1277 | August 3rd, 2008 at 10:18pm I heard that there are types of tarantulas who aren't evil. And you can hold them and they walk around on your hands, and I don't think you have to worry about them...killing you. You know, the kinds of tarantulas that kids used to bring in for Show-And-Tell.
What kinds are those? |

What kinds are those? Well, the Chilean Rose spider is the most famous tarantula as it has the classic look to it, they're safe and RARELY bite.
Mexican red knees are the same, just prettier.
Brazilian Blacks are absolutely massive, but safe.
Most other spiders need t lot of attention to keep them from becoming aggresive. |

Age: 15 Gender: Male Posts: 1277 | August 3rd, 2008 at 10:24pm Rarely. I'd rather have them never bite. Does it hurt? Do they, like, just pinch, or do they try to eat your hand?
I'm sorry for being so overdramatic.
What do you mean by "attention"? |

Age: 15 Gender: Male Posts: 162 | August 3rd, 2008 at 10:34pm Well when they bite, they can bite through your skin nice and clean and inject weak venom into you which will hurt for weeks.
If you have something like a bird eating spider, you're kinda screwed if they bit, they're strong as Hell and they're really well known for biting really damned hard and many times at once.
But luckily, no one's been recorded to have died by a tarantula bite.....yet. xD
I once helped someone tame a wild caught Chilean Rose which would go for your hand as soon as you opened their tank, it was fun but started to hurt after like 4 bites in thre same place. xD
And by attention I mean handling them ALL the time. |

When I was in 6th grade we went to this camp with our school.
A girl found a spider and started flailing about telling someone to kill it.
I kept it as my pet until the end of the week |

Little ones are cute.

They scare me! I can look at them in pet stores,
But I've had many experiences of jumping on chairs, [and usually falling off of them]
While my friend gets them out of the house. |

Tarantulas' poison should NOT hurt. It should itch. |

I found a tarantula in the kitchen last year, I think. And I screamed, and I didn't walk back in there until a month later. I hate spiders. D:
Although I guess they'd make pretty cool pets. I mean, they don't do anything but stay in the cage. |

I'd make my mom kill it then clean the kitchen. Then make sure nothing else was in there. |

Awww. I just looked up the Mexican Red Knee.
Apparently, they can live for a long time in captivity.
I want one so bad now, but my mom and sister would freak and kill it. ._. |

Accept this past week I was going to my friends cabin, at about one in the morning and there were spiders covering the door/knob/door frame.
I was scared.
Very scared.

Age: 17 Gender: Female Posts: 6625 | August 19th, 2008 at 10:46am My brother used to have a tarantula.
I was petrified of it at first, but once I got used to it, I thought it was great. It ended up being mine because my brother couldn't be bothered looking after it. So I got to feed it and sort out its tank.
It was awesome |
