I'm not sure about other schools, but at my school they have what we call "lock downs". There are different codes, and each one signifies something worse. It's to keep the school safe, in case there is dangerous person in the community, near the school, or in the school. We oftentimes have drills, like over the intercom randomly the principal will call "Code Red" and we'll have to follow the lock down procedures for that code. Do any of you know what I'm talking about, or have them at your school?

If so, do you really think they are successful? I personally don't, because my school doesn't really feel the need to use them or practice them, so if someone screamed "Code Red", I'll bet almost no one will know what's going on.

I;m just saying how this was for schools in my area. We'd have a fire alarm, that would go.
Sometimes, a special bell would ring, and the teachers would automatically put us into the correct drill.
Like, the one time there was a man with a gun near our school, and we went on lockdown. Well, I was in Computer apps class, so, we just turned off the lights and stayed away from the door Mr. Green

I think 'Code Red' isn't very effective, because it obviously sounds like you're hiding something you know, so if an intruder heard, they'd think "they know I'm here... Better kill them all before I get arrested" or something... I think phrases that are considered mundane, but are not used at the school very much should be used, like "Would _____ ______ please report to the office?" and make the name something like "Barry Red" or "Samantha Blue", you know?

^That's a very interesting idea.

We have the codes, but we never have drills for them like we do with fire drills.

That would be a really good idea. I mean, hearing "code red" over the intercom is not going to really help anything. It's just pointless. I mean, even a bell that sounds different from the normal school bell would prove to be more effective than "Code Red!" Because all in all, "code red" is pretty self explanatory.

My school had different noises for different things. There was one for fire, one for chemical/gas leak and one for dangerous person.

Problem is, the one time we actually used the dangerous person one because there was a dangerous person, we all thought it was the bell and went outside...

My school is very paranoid.

When I was in 2nd grade, there was a guy who was mental from Florida. He came to California because of some absurd reason I can't recall. I think it was depression... But anyways, his parents lived around my elementary school, and then the guy had a breakdown or something.

So he ran to my school with a gun, shirtless. Three of my classmates were sitting near the door to read because the teacher made them, and then they screamed because the man tried to come in, but he ended up climbing up to the roof.

Then we all went in code red. So did the nearby middle school and highschool. It was exciting, and we got to go on the news. They eventually arrested him though.

Ever since, all schools in the area are really paranoid. A man who was ver gangster-like came to the office and asked to see this one student, but the secretary didn't allow him to, so he stormed off. The next second, she sent the whole school in code blue.

And at my school, code red means complete lock down. We have to chain all doors and then barricade them with a huge drawer / supply closet or stack up desks against the doors. Then we have to turn off all the lights and sit in silence. It's fun when we have to practice that, but I think is a waste of time tehe

Code blue means lock the doors, but continue class normally.

They're introducing lock downs to New Zealand schools, but we don't have an intercom so none of the "code red" business. We just have a continual bell, in which time we must lock the doors, close the windows and curtains, and hide under our desks.

The only time we had a lock down sort of thing was when we had a bomb scare when I was in 6th grade. XD

We had to sit out on the bleachers for three hours then go back inside to put our things in lockers and go home.

Yeah, if there is a bad fist fight in school we go on Code Blue for a period or two. It's really annoying.

lmfao

We're right next to a hospital and have nothing like that.

We sometimes have firedrills, but we always stuff them up.
And I remember the earthquake drills in primary.

They were fun. Con

My school had a lock down like two years ago, because some criminal was walking around the campus. OMFG

But we usually have drills just in case it happens again. I've never heard of fights causing some kind of code thing. And I've seen A LOT of fights in my years here. Even one with a pregnant girl and some other girl.

We have lockdowns once every three months or so, at my school. File The office lady says "Will sister Clare (catholic school) please come to the office, sister Clare? Thank you." and then we all get out of our desks and push our chairs in and try to hide ourselves.

We were in the art room the last time it happened, with a substitute who had no idea what to do. The thing about the art room we were in, though, was you could see it from wherever you were in the playground, so, we'd all be screwed if it was for real. Everybody made a joke about the sister Clare thing too.File [/spam]

I think it's sorta stupid if you have it at school, but are in a safe area, whereas in the suburbs I live in, it's needed urgently and we need to know the procedure.

I feel quite left out, we never have stuff like this. The most excitement I get at school is from a fire drill....And we dont even have to worry if there is a nuclear leak either....my school is the oppitamy of boring!

We get lock downs all the time at our school.
Mostly they're for searches. We'll have to sit in whatever room we're in with the door locked as police go through the entire school with drug-snifing dogs checking everyone's lockers. We usually have them once a marking period or so. Usually nothing's found, but there are those few times when people get called down to the office afterwards.

Then there was a few times when we had lock downs where we were in actual danger.
Once was because a man was running around the area threatening to shoot one of the students at our school. We had to stay in our 2nd period rooms for almost 2 hours with the doors locked, the lights off, and away from the windows. (They're 42 minute periods, so that was quite a long time for us) And supposedly we had snipers on our roof to make sure he didn't come near the school. By the end of the day the police had found and restrained him, so we were allowed to leave at our normal time.
Another time, school had been closed the day before. They had found a bomb threat in the boys bathroom with a date and time. They closed the school on the day of the 'bombing' and we were in 'code orange' for about the rest of the week. That week they also got metal detectors and many police officers to patrol the school and we were no longer allowed to carry back-packs unless they're clear.
There was also another time when a report came to the school of a student being missing. Then later on they got a call saying one of his uncle's guns was missing also and figured he was coming to the school and causing a shooting. I believe they had found a note he wrote saying how he'd get back at people and how he'd have his revenge; and a hit list too. So we had code orange then too, which is basically stay in your class until the bell rings and go straight to the next one with no detours. This one was very major though and parents were calling their kids frantically trying to learn what happened since they weren't getting the full story from the news. Parents thought there had been a shooting, so many parents (including my mom) came and picked up their kids not even half way through the school day.
All of them got our school on the news also. =/

...Wow, it sounds like I go to a really bad school. ._.

Nothing very serious ever happened at my elementary/middle school. Last year, though, there was this guy that pulled into the parking lot and just... Sat there. Then an ambulance came and took him away. tehe (I'm sorry, I shouldn't be laughing at this...)

We had codes, like "Could _____ _____ please come to the office?" and such.

I don't know about my high school. Shifty
