Well, I'm a complete and utter n00b at times like this. What is it with my friend randomly starting a conversation and saying "You haven't seen my new car, right?" then sending me a 'picture' that is clearly not a jpg/bmp/whatever? After I close the window, she says the exact same thing and sends it again in about five minutes... I know it's not her. I just want to know what it is... And why it's doing it. And why I can't talk to her.

Those things that she's sending you are usually trojans or other viruses.
They are programmed to send that or other messages to pretty much everyone on her friends list.
Just don't click on the files and you'll be fine.

Oh. And you should be able to talk to her... I don't know why it wouldn't let you....

Ah, it let me talk to her, it's just... she didn't reply as herself. She replied by posting that thing to me again! Smiley

Why does it do that? Did her account get hacked or something? How do I prevent it happening to me?

Her account may have gotten hacked.
And like I said, as long as you don't click on the files she sends, you should be fine. Very Happy

Why she's not replying is most likely because she's not on. It's 95% chance that it got hacked and some retard is logged in sending all of those messages to everyone that is online on her friends list.

Tell her to change the password and it should definitely end.

My suggestion would be to block your 'friend' and try and get in contact with her some other way to tell her this is happening on her account, in case she doesn't know.

Thank God my msn doesn't do that. Cheese

But my Yahoo! Messenger does. Whenever I open a conversation, it automatically types:

"Hey watch this, nakakatawa ito."

It means "Hey watch this, it's funny." and then automatically sends a file named scandal. avi. Shit I was scared when it happens so what I do is just.. not using YM. viruses are just so bad.Sad

It's a trojan. Do what was suggested and get your friend to reset her password. Even run a virus scan just to be safe that your computer didn't pick up anything by accident.

Your friend has the trojan because she clicked on the same thing when someone sent it to her, that's how it gets passed around so make sure you don't click on it and tell all of your friends that know her not to click on it.
Hope I helpedVery Happy
