Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 262 | August 22nd, 2008 at 10:56pm So I'm writing and filming a Youtube show with my friends and it's based in the mid-90's. My only problem is I'm having trouble finding anything related to the 90's fashion outside of Grunge and Gothic. I figured this would be the best place to put this, here or in the Fact Finder thread but it's here due to the fashion advice.
The story takes place in 1995, so I'm looking for anything between 1993 and 1995. Google hasn't been very helpful. |

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 262 | August 23rd, 2008 at 06:33am I've seen the first two, but not the third one. I think Wikipedia will be helpful enough, but it's hard to find images and the right kind of information I'm looking for. If anyone could recommend a website that has pictures or possibly different fads by decade that'd be nice. None-the-less those were helpful links, thank you. |

Age: 15 Gender: Female Posts: 470 | August 27th, 2008 at 01:32am Well, I know that the whole What Would Jesus Do stuff kinda took off, so did Jelly shoes, Hypercolor clothes (they changed colours with heat), leather jackets, spandex shorts, beanies, "hip-hop" look.
=]
And, if it's any help, really flat, board straight and "bed-head" hair styles were in too.
Do you have a particular age demographic that you're trying to represent? Like, are your characters kids, teenagers, young adults?
By the way, this is a really helpful website..=]

Like, Clarissa Explains It All, or Are You Afraid of the Dark?. |

My sister was a teenager in the 90s [she graduated high school in 1999] and she was the rare skater chick. She wore dickies, a lot of just plain t-shirts, and she even had this gas station shirt that she got from a thrift store. The gas station worker shirts were pretty popular with her friends actually. She also wore a lot of flare-esque jeans and twine chokers.Hope I helped =]
...Oh and for shoes, she wore creepers and big, puffy skater shoes. |

Others;
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Roseanne (older episodes).
Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
Sienfeld (older episodes).
Game shows are good. Movies, too.
I sort of liked the '90s style. I guess I still wear it today, but I wear more '70s punk. Lol.
I remember Skater Punk being really popular. My brother was into it until 2000 when it basically disappeared.

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 262 | August 28th, 2008 at 02:55am Yeah, I know I should watch the shows. That was the first thing that came to mind, but it's really hard for me to find any of the old shows on tv and on at times I can watch them. Stupid Disney taking away Boy Meets World. Home Improvement is a good choice and I do watch it still, so it's not like I'm not getting any influence.
I've actually been going through my mom and dad's old clothes from the 70's and 80's. Mostly concert shirts, so I could get a couple flannels and be grunge. Though I do remember the cut-off jean shorts and Hawaiian shirts. And everyone had a pair of Saddle Shoes.
Thanks for all the help you guys. |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5390 | August 28th, 2008 at 03:03am If you watch Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, just look at Chris Smith's clothing. That's basic street/hiphop wear that was popular in the early 90 to mid-90s.
You can always find these shows on YouTube.
I'm tellin' ya, though. Street Punk = very popular in the 90s. A lot of high schoolers got into it. Punk style in general came back mainstream for a while in the 90s with the Offspring, Rancid and Green Day.

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 262 | August 28th, 2008 at 04:44am Now that I think about it, I do remember Punk in and out on tv, but not so much where I live. My brother and sisters didn't dress like that; mostly graphic t-shirts and jeans. And of course the baseball hats and Nikes. We always wore shirts that said where we vacationed. And I was quite the tights child. |

Age: 16 Gender: Female Posts: 262 | August 28th, 2008 at 10:28pm Actaully Watoosh!, considering I was only seven in 1999, and my brother lived with us off and on, I don't remember much. All I know is I was one of those kids who was really into the girly stuff; I only knew what I wore. Now I'm looking to go back to what was in style when I was three. I didn't care or remember what people were wearing then. I was a really self-centered kid.
Question:
Do they still make Light-up shoes? If they do, it's Skechers right? |

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5390 | August 29th, 2008 at 12:19am Light up shoes are still very popular with young kids, yes. xD I do believe they're Sketchers.
Also, Lisa Frank was popular with young girls during the '90s. I think it has been since the 80s.
