A friend of ours found him tied to a power pole and he was skinny as a stick. Now he's about 10 or 11 and he's doing really well. He hates motorbikes because his old owner had one and he used to hate men. Now he just hates loud noises and hot air balloons, otherwise he's pretty perfect and I love him, his name's Tanner. |

The rescue agency found her on the streets of South Carolina. She was one of the best dogs we've ever had. I loved her so much. She'd gotten along so well, after days of refusing to come up from the basement, weeks of refusing to eat in front of us, and months of her hiding her food (once she actually ate). She'd done such a superb job that we were capable of using her as my mom's service. We had to put her down a while back. I still can't believe how much I miss her. ![]() [edit] She was put down due to the fault of liver failure. We'd had another puppy, Brute, a Shepard mix, and they'd been out in the woods when a rattlesnake approached them. As the rattlesnake went to strike at Brute, Blanca got in the way, taking a bite to her nose... We knew it would lead to liver failure, but having to put her down was tragic all the same. ![]() [/edit] Our current dog, Lady Val [also known as Valium] was abused. She was used as a constant Brood Bitch. Which I find incredibly atrocious. Eh, I may be hidebound (or something...) but I don't see the need in constantly breeding a dog (and at such a young age, too!). Once her -disgusting- owner died the neighbors called a rescue agency and we've been calling her family ever since they contacted us about her. She really was a Godsend; we'd been looking for a dog and we were on the verge of adopting this adorable puppy from New York City but then they contacted us and we were like, "That's it, she's the one!" We weren't capable of getting her right away due to the fact that she had heart worms. She went through some experimental (I wasn't quite supportive over the fact that they were using my baby as a guinea pig) treatment on her, and oddly enough, it worked! So now she is happy, healthy and fat. She's constantly on an on-again-off-again diet because she loves to eat. Now she is my service dog. Specifically: A Seizure Alert Dog. I absolutely adore her! :tehe: |

He nursed him back to health then moved out , My auntie was going to sell him but instead I got him because I'd been looking after him any way. We think that his tail got broken (or came off) . But he's fine now . :cute: |

He was suppose too be long-haired but his fur was brittle and short and he always acted like we were going to hit him or something. He is teeny-tiny but he was left out side all the time. Now after a year that we bought him he has long soft fur, is outgoing but still a bit timid, and is pretty much inside and warm and spoiled. Lol. |
| Michaela_fakeit Member Age: 18 Gender: Female Points: 100 | All my house pets are rescues, even one of my horses are a rescue. Two of my dogs came from puppy mills, one so bad that the pups were kept in lobster cages. The little yorkie we have is still a little jumpy at certain things, but shes made a lot of progress. She just has really bad separation anxiety. She had two babies only one lived, and it was adopted out by the local animal shelter to a good home. One of our most recent rescues, an old lasso-apso girl who had 7 pups with her. She had at least 4 batches of puppies before this one, and her previous owner told us that he'd take them out to the lake and drown them, and this time, he was planning on drowning the mother along with the babies. So, we saved 8 dogs lives in just that one day. It may have been a little hectic around the house with 12 dogs running around, but it was fun, and they were all enjoying playing around with each other. My cats were also rescues, Kasper was the only one to live out of the whole animal shelter(I'm not sure how many cats passed). Although he has brain damage from the illness he had(it's known as rhino) he has a happy comfortable life here with us. (: But before he got better we had to triple his dosage of antibiotics. My other cat was a stray, I don't know how someone could abandon such a beautiful creature with a litter of beautiful kittens, but they did. Shes a purebred Siamese cat, but she doesn't have the personality of a Siamese cat. Shes so friendly and loving, and when you walk in the house, shes there to greet you even before the dogs. My old Mare Jessie(horse) was severely under weight, her previous owner did not have enough money to care for her properly, and she did not have a full winter coat, and she was kept outside with very limited shelter, seeing as they did not own a barn. We have two other dogs, that came from owners who neglected to feed and care for them properly. I can't even stress how much it bothers me when I see a pet being mis-treated. But I know my mom, my dad, my brother and I are doing the right thing by taking in and caring for as many animals as we can. Sometimes, we don't have enough room in our house to keep the pets we take in, so we bring them to the local animal shelter and make sure they get adopted out into good homes. ![]() |
| OMG it's Tara. Member Age: 15 Gender: Female Points: 100 | My old dog was rescued. She would listen to everything you said but she couldn't stand tall, thin, males. I think my dad had to fight her to get her to listen to him, too. Also my neighbor had a cat but she moved and left the poor thing. She never even let it in the house or took it to the vet so the poor thing was like half blind and deaf when my neighbors found it. So they took her to the vet and they said that if the neighbors hadn't taken it in she would have died. She's okay now, thank goodness but she still can't hear very well. |
| CommanderSpock Member Age: 19 Gender: Female Points: 100 | My former neighbors had a dog that was tied up outside day and night in all kinds of weather. It hardly ever stopped barking, so several times his owner would go out and throw things at him, in order to make him shut up. It ran away once, but was found again. They gave up the dog for adoption after my family and the rest of the neighborhood complained and threatened with reporting them. |
| The Intention Craft Member Age: 17 Gender: Female Points: 100 | We found my bird in the wild one day outside of our house, and from watching him over the years, we think he was abused from his previous owner. He's really spastic; he pulls out his tail feathers sometimes and is seriously afraid of hands. He's only starting to trust me when I use my hands to pick him up, but otherwise, he runs/flies away when you bring your hand around him. And if you do have him in your hands, he tries his hardest to squirm out or bites you until you let him go. |
| wannabefamous Member Age: 14 Gender: Female Points: 100 | I have a Jack Russel Mix named Skippy and she was abused. My brother's baseball coach found her along the road, and we took her in. She was still a puppy and we had her one-year b-day a few months ago. We were instantly able to tell she was abused because she would lay down on her back with her tail tucked so we could rub her stomach. She's not like that anymore. She still gets a little scared when someone new comes and whines and sometimes cries when we leave, but, other tahn that, she's happy and loves to play. |

He's very skittish and flinches if you move to fast around him or you pet him when he's not expecting you to. He's very affection to women though and he loves to play. |

| controlled poison. Member Age: 14 Gender: Female Points: 100 | One of our pitbulls had been abused before we got her at the Humane Society. Apparently, her previous owner used to burn her and hit her with firecrackers, so now she's deathly afraid of them. Not to mention, she used to be terrified of men since her old owner was a man. She was so skinny too, so we were always scared to really touch her cause you could see all her bones, so we waited to really run around with her until she was a healthy weight. When my dad and I found out about her old owner, we were pretty pissed. We wanted to hunt the guy down and tear him limb from limb. :grr: But violence isn't the answer so we didn't. |
| Miss Authoress Member Age: 16 Gender: Female Points: 200 | The family friend's best friend (she's my dad's friend too) adopted an abused Havanese. The dog's name is Belle and she is so cute. However, she does not trust men and barks at men. She was abused by a man and she is very distrustful of them. She does not bite them, just is wary of them. It is terrible that people abuse animals. |
| Dr.Reid's Property. Member Age: 14 Gender: Female Points: 100 | My friends (they're twins) have a German Shepard who was abused. She's really nervous and it's rare for her to allow me to rub her, even though she's known me as lomg as her owners. Her old owner stabbed her brother and her sister with a pitchfork and they died. Luckily, Jasmin ran away. He also killed her mother. She's a lovely dog though. |
| kllyqtpie15 Member Age: 16 Gender: Female Points: 150 | My family and I rescued one of our three dogs. When she was a puppy her third (yes, two other families didn't want her either) family had just decided they didn't want her anymore and tied her up to a pole somewhere in Brooklyn. BROOKLYN. I used to tear up everytime I thought about her past. But when we saw her at Petsmart... it was like instant realization for her and it was like love at first sight for me and my brother. we ran to her, but we didn't realize that she was shaven down and not traditionally cute as far as dogs go. It took a while for my brother to warm up to her, but now they like each other a lot... in fact, Rosie (the dog) pretty much worships the ground he walks on. it's really cute cuz she loves him so much. When we gave her her very first bath... she was so cute. We blow dryed her and she shook her fur/hair out. she was just this little adorable fluff-ball and looked like a really big pompom!! She was so cute. Now I know she's very happy running around and playing with the other two dogs (one our lab Sammy/Samantha who we had before her and Maggie our yorkie who was given to us by a family who couldn't take care of her anymore,) and playing with us, too. She sometimes says good morning to me by jumping on my bed and sniff my face and then either sleep by my feet, stomach, or back depending on what position I am sleeping in. And jumping on my bed is a pretty great feat for her since she's little and my bed has two mattresses on top of each other. Another thing she does is yawn really sweetly when my brother and I come home from school. She makes this noise that sounds like she's trying to sing but she can't help herself because she's so excited by sleepy at the same time... Sorry I really went off topic, but she's such a great dog and friend I couldn't help myself to write about her. P.S. she is an adorably cute cairn terrier. You know Toto from the Wizard of Oz? Same dog... only Rosie's cuter. :) |
| Jimmy Page Member Age: 17 Gender: Female Points: 250 | A few years ago we got three donkeys. One of them came from an abusive home. She really didn't want us around her at first and she didn't really start walking up to us wanting to be petted until a few months ago. She's a sweetheart though once you get to know her and her daughter (who was not abused) is the friendliest little donkey you'd ever meet. :) |
