Likewise, groups sometimes lobby to have books banned for 'moral' reasons, or because they are offensive. Banning can mean the book cannot be published or sold, but in some cases even possessing it can be illegal.
George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' was banned in parts of 20th Century Europe for having radical political notions, but that ban has since been lifted. Copies that survived were brought back into the public, and publishers began minting out new ones. Likewise, in communist countries and Germany under the Third Reich many books were banned by the reigning powers, but a few copies survived in secret, only to re-emerge later. |

I'm so glad some copies survived. It's a brilliant book. I studied it in class about 2 years ago, and I absolutely loved it. It's so clever and just... amazing. |
