^ Clever!

The Salem with trials began on my birthday Smile
Not in 1992, obviously, but on February the 8th nonetheless. Very Happy

Hmmm..I don't know if I'd see that as a good thing. :tehe

Why is it not a good thing?
It's not like I drown people to see if they're witches...

I don't know, I just maybe wouldn't want to be born on the day so many died.
Hmm do you believe in reincarnation?

This topic interests me as well but I haven't done as much studying as I would like. One thing that irritates me about this subject was that many Wiccans uses Salem to point fingers at Christians, and I'm not saying Christians don't do things similar either, but those who were killed were not Wiccans that I know of. From what I have read, it had nothing to do with Wicca or Paganism.

Wiccans have every right to point. Before you argue, read more.

We had to read the Crucible in school this year. I've done some research and the book seems pretty accurate. The only huge difference is the relationship between John Proctor and Abigail Williams. At the time Abigail was only about ten years old and Proctor was in his forties or fifties, so it's highly improbable that they had an intimate relationship.

The whole thing apparently started with these girls having weird fits and seizures and blaming it on the spirits of the supposed witches. Today there's speculation that the seizures may have been caused by some kind of fungus in the bread they were eating. Has anyone else ever heard that?

Yea I heard about the bread thing but not about the relationship between John and Abigail. I think the fungus theory is pretty accurate and it would explain a lot.

I would also say this could've been the cause, but I guess people back then didn't want to use science to figure it out.

They probably didn't feel it was necessary. They put so much belief into the supernatural that witches was a completely plausible explantion for the occurences.

The Salem Witch trails is one of the most fascinating things in history in my opinon..
It was also one of the most terrifying times in life too. Anyone could blame another person for being a witch and there wasn't any way for them to prove if the person is or isn't. If a baby was born dead automatically that person would be considered as a witch. Even if there were witches they wouldn't stop by to figure out why they do what they do and see if it really was evil or not. They'll just be hanged at the end of the day.
It was just Tituba showing the girls something that her tribe did to try to predict the future. I've had to do this as a oral report and found out that Tituba was kidnapped as a little girl from a tribe. I really don't remember which tribe anymore. But history has a tendency of repeating itself...someone is going to ignore all reason and do this all over again..
Mostly in a very superstitious place...

I agree, I'm thinking maybe a third world country.

Yea, I heard about the telling the future thing, I also think it had something to do with an egg. It told who they were going to marry or something like that.
I could be mixing up stories.

That was considered on of the reasons why they looked through an egg...it also had to do with everyday life and their family...

My Civics teacher is related to Rebecca Nurse, one of the elderly ladies killed in the trials. Her house is a museum, or something. Apparently she's his great x8 grandmother.

Abigail was actually 13 and John Proctor was in his 60's, and no, there really wasn't an intimate relationship between them. Arthur Miller only put that in the Crucible for dramatic purposes. Really though, the Crucible wasn't that far off on what happened.

I still think it's funny how Abigail really did run off to Boston and become a prostitute though.
